New Canadian Politics Thread

Yeah, they cut it off because the page is about "basic facts" not various ways the US has attempted to overturn the socialist government.

So they quote a source but edit the parts they don't like.

Any time you want to address the actual constitutional changes made by Hugo, I'm all ears.

If you would like to learn about its constitution from an independent source, here ya go:

They provided the link. So I went and looked at the link, and didn't rely on their excerpt.

And youre the one that posted a source that was just quoting Wikipedia.

So the "unbiased source" we should rely on to discuss the Venezuelan government is.....the Venezuelan government's most prominent ambassador?

"Presentation by Bernardo Alvarez Herrera, Ambassador of Venezuela to the US"

from a speech he made in...2007?

lol, yeah, wouldn't ever want to quote a government official about their plans.

This is the standard coup canard you don't recognize. They start attacking it as undemocratic because of things Americans apparently love (term limits, checks and balances) and fail to recognize that it is, in fact, a much more robust form of democracy that involves much, much higher levels of citizen engagement.

So far that website has shown me a) a selected excerpt from wikipedia and b) a speech by Chavez' ambassador

While you literally parrot regime change advocats' criticisms of the constitution, you could exercise some curiosity and find piles of original content on the site.

I can find endless actual academic analyses of the constitutional changes in the country.

You would laugh at all of them, while pimping a website that quotes Wikipedia and Chavez' personal appointees.

Do you know any Venezuelans, btw? My defacto sis in law was born and raised there, and most of her family is still there.

Yes, I have a neighbour (an academic) that still spends lots of time there. Not sure what that has to do with anything. He's a huge supporter of the government.

As for the endless academic analyses, I'll be happy to discuss any that are not funded by forces hostile to Venezuela.

I'm curious, zeke, what you make of Juan Guaido. He's never won election, he openly calls for the overthrow of the government and foreign intervention and yet he doesn't get jailed or censored. How does that square with your view that the government is authoritarian?

Couldn't get the last one to link properly.

But you could Google it:
