New Canadian Politics Thread

The next Alberta Election is scheduled for next May. I mean, yeah, she could try to force it a little earlier, but it's not like she'll be governing for years before going to the electorate.

Thats enough time for her to cause some serious havoc. She’s on the same level at Theo Fleury. Actually wouldn’t shock me to see her attempt to give him a position in her party

what's the percentages there

When measured heads up

Trudeau - 46
PP - 30
Neither - 19
Unsure - 5

Favourability among women

Trudeau - 52%
PP - 22% (yikes)

Men

Trudea - 39
PP - 38

His approach so far though hasn’t ingratiated him with voters. Asked to identify Mr. Poilievre’s positive attributes, four out of every 10 survey respondents (41 per cent) said they had nothing positive to say about Mr. Poilievre. Six per cent of respondents said he stands up for Canadians, the same portion said he is a good speaker and 5 per cent said he is intelligent. Another 5 per cent said they didn’t know him.

The most common response when asked to identify Mr. Trudeau’s negative traits was too much spending, which was identified as an issue by 16 per cent of respondents. Other negative attributes included being out of touch or untrustworthy, having ethical controversies and being arrogant. Eight per cent of respondents said they had nothing negative to say about Mr. Trudeau.

For Mr. Poilievre, the most frequently mentioned negative trait was that he is too right wing, a concern raised by 22 per cent of respondents. Others included his support for the trucker convoys, being divisive or abrasive, and being similar to former U.S. president Donald Trump. Thirteen per cent of respondents said they had nothing negative to say about Mr. Poilievre.

The poll also shows the Conservative Leader is vulnerable to attacks that he is right wing. That issue was underscored last week after a Global News report that came out after the Nanos survey was completed.

Populist appeal!!!

Important to note in that last paragraph, those were people being asked for 1 thing that jumped out they didn't like about him. 22% flat out said he's too right wing and then additional percentages peeled the onion back even further.

Pee-Pee's appeal is a fiction created by Sun Media and Postmedia.

It’s been kind of remarkable to watch. For at least the past two years, even going back to a good while before he announced his run for the CPC leadership, there’s been a concerted effort by Postmedia to pump this guy’s tires.

I even noticed signs of an astroturfing campaign in support of him on social media sites like Twitter & Reddit leading up to O’Toole’s ouster and his run at the leadership.

All in an attempt to rebrand him into a serious, mainstream prime minister-in-waiting from an intellectual lightweight partisan attack dog that dog whistles to the extreme far-right of Canadian politics, has never had a job outside politics and has never had a serious position of leadership or responsibility inside politics.

While all true, I do wonder what the average person sees or knows about him. Like, he's certainly the sort of person that anyone who pays attention to politics absolutely knows about and has strong opinions about one way or the other. And I bet a lot of the more People's Party wing know about him. But I definitely don't know what the people who are only marginally interested in politics see and know? Do they just see that Justinflation dining ad and base an opinion on that, or do they know more?
