Edmonton is at least a bit of a haven from the nutters

Yeah, staring at that yellow blob on the electoral map used to give me hope. When Trudeau won a few ridings in Calgary (including the one I was living in...you're welcome) in 2015, I was hopeful that urban demographics were shifting the province. I still think that they are, but the Wildrose right is fucking loony and well populated. It's going to be a fight out there. Here's hoping Notley boot fucks the UCP in a few months.

The NDP are worse than the devil though.

I think covid made the shift to the right more dramatic though. Or so I fear.

At least Mike Nickel didn't win the Mayoral race, but otherwise Edmonton is just a slightly larger and less batshit Red Deer. As someone who has now lived among them for 4 years my take on Alberta is that there are far too many irredeemably stupid people who vote. Most of the people living in my condo complex are white, over 60, Fox News viewers who still have a grudge against Trudeau's dad for imposing the National Energy Policy back in 1980. The NDP is never getting those votes. These are people who are quite happy to believe that all of Alberta's problems began and ended with the 4 year span of NDP governance wedged in between over 5 decades of one party conservative rule.
