New Canadian Politics Thread

Think I'm happy I moved. Brutal. The uncertainty is nuts to me. I like a fixed cost so I can budget the rest. Is there an actual logical reason behind these short terms because it seems weird. I get what LCS said and I get that it could go down but that likelihood?

Naw for all its warts I like the multitude of avenues to secure money in the states.

Yeah, I went with variable rate right before the pandemic. Had a 1.55% rate. Could've locked at 2.64 when the first rate hike came. Figured it wouldn't go up that much. Wrong. I stubbornly rode it up, so now I'm going to ride it down.

My payment basically went from $1k/month (500 bi-weekly), to $1,600/month. Not fun, couldn't imagine people with larger mortgage balances trying to cope though.

Addition 9k per year.. fun with an infant at the same time.
Absolutely. Tack on additional needs of a child with disabilities and having to have one parent work part time from home to make sure he’s safe before and after school. Wheeeeee. I love it but I hate that because of economic climate that it’s a huge struggle to stay afloat and having to potentially look at options for a full time job and maybe have to leave my little with people who don’t get it.

yah my colleagues and friends on variable rate mortgages say for every 25 point rate increase it essentially amounts to thousands in additional payments annually. just nutty.

On the downside, I’m on a variable rate.

On the upside, I jumped into the market at basically the moment of peak uncertainty when it came to how high interest rates were going to go, betting that the nightmare scenarios wouldn’t come true and that I could ride it out until rates stopped rising & then began to fall.

As a result, while I’ve seen my mortgage payments go up, I seem to have gotten my house at a pretty steep discount compared to what everything else comparable in the neighbourhood is going for.

Though I do know some people who got screwed both ways. Jumped in at the absolute height of housing prices and lowest interest rates. And then they’ve seen their variable rate skyrocket & house value go down.

Due to the rate increase? Coz that’s theoretically what is suppose to happen. And that would be the difference with the US. Our assets (houses prices) more accurately reflect actual financial market conditions because mortgage contracts roll over far more frequently.

I could generally give a fuck about religious practices, but most of halal/kosher (not the same thing, but close enough for any of us who could give a fuck about the religious side of the practice) is really just decent basic butchery practices that should be minimum required law in the first place.

- Can't stress the animal before killing it
- Have to slaughter humanely
- Animal can't be sick
- have to properly drain the blood after slaughter
- Any water used has to be clean and can't be re used

That's it. That plus a prayer is halal.

Yeah, of all the crazy religious food practices, halal/kosher is like basically great.
