Yeah, that’s right, it’s just a way to describe the context based on some kind priors. The value add is under the hood regardless if it’s finite or continuous.

It’s definitely a choice for a dude who took 11 years to get a bog-standard undergraduate degree from a meh University in his own backyard to draw attention to the fact that his opponent wrote a doctoral thesis at Oxford.
