New Canadian Politics Thread

I am not nearly as dismissive of the political value as the poster here. This may actually be pretty clever.

Purely anecdotal, but the handful of people I've spoken to over the last ~2 weeks who are on the fence about Carney find any issue that isn't firmly rooted in the reality of our current national crisis to be radioactive right now. None of it matters to them, and trying to change the conversation from the economy, sovereignty, trade, jobs, is a non starter.

Fwiw, Barrie is probably a pretty good bellweather for the type of CPC friendly region that Pierre should be crushing in if he's not going to get blown the fuck out. It's about as safe a CPC seat as exists in Ontario and if Barrie swing voters don't want to hear that conspiracy shit, I don't think it's going to play well in ridings the CPC has way less historic support.

my anecdata is different than yours.

what I am seeing is people lapping up the right-wing talking points about Carney and holding him to an impossible standard that they do not hold PP to.

hell, my mom told me she was voting Blue, which gave me a big shock. and my dad keeps sending me shit about why Carney is bad, that is pretty clearly sourced from the right-wing bullshitosphere.

and Carney's greenness in politics has definitely been showing.

but the polls obviously strongly disagree right now.

"Western Canada" as in AB and SK? I mean, if they want to start a landlocked frozen shit hole country with 6 million people, have at it. Or see if you can actually get folks in Calgary or Edmonton to give up their healthcare and join the shit show to the south.

Otherwise go back to your Yellowstone cosplay and shut the fuck up.

Seems like folks in AB are trying to threaten Ontario that if we don’t fall back in line with PP they’re headed for the exit. I’m not sure they understand how little we give a shit about them.

He’s going on a podcast where the host said to invade Canada? Yeah, I’m sure a lot of men under 40 would lap that up but hopefully everyone else says fuck that guy.

I don't think we live in the same information ecosystems as a majority of the Canadian voting age population. and it worries me because of the amount of mis and dis information I hear smart people casually repeat without a second thought.

This was always a Reform Party policy. "If we don't get what we want we'll pretend that we have the same power as Quebec and separate."

They never understood that support for Western separation was never above fringe levels and nowhere near as high as in Quebec. They also fail to grasp that they do not now and never will have the federal electoral power that Quebec has. They could leave Confederation this afternoon and the rest of Canada would barely notice they were gone.

And right now, we're only talking about Alberta and Saskatchewan, which combined represents fewer voters than Toronto and the 905. Manitoba won't be joining the party and neither will BC.

Basically, the Western fascists are butthurt that they can't elect a fascist as Prime Minister.

Poilievre losing his own riding still seems like a complete fever dream considering the margins he typically wins that seat by.

Won’t believe it at all until I see it.

Still though, pretty wild even that three federal leaders (Singh, Poilievre & May) are currently behind in their own ridings.
with former Liberal leader Justin Trudeau's riding still (at least according to 338) Papineau riding still considered "safe Red".
