New Canadian Politics Thread

905 are pocket book voters + good schools. Keep taxes low, house value high, traffic moving. Don’t have time for weirdo conspiracy theories and culture wars.

PP is an unserious weirdo and they know it.
I was legit shocked when I realized how much all my conservative friends dislike him.

like, not just ambivalence. not acceptance or tolerance. they all actively dislike the guy. special breed of asshole he is.

More conservative signs out here than I would like...

Yeah, I'm not worried for this election, I just don't like the idea of surbanites having outsized influence on our elections in general. It's largely a unsustainable lifestyle lived in unsustainable sprawled out, terribly planned small cities with an electorate that rarely can see past it's own nose or tax bill.

Truth. I do know some of them are struggling with not voting for Brassard but know that they may need to vote for an unknown L who’s name literally just dropped two weeks ago to keep PP away from the adult stuff

That's part of the problem with being in fortress ridings is that the quality of the challenger candidates is usually pretty grim. Once in a while you'll get a local municipal politician with enough of a local brand to make a run at them, but that's generally the extent of it.

I've met Brassard a bunch of times, he's more or less exactly what I don't like about conservative politicians all wrapped up into one but yeah, Olthuis is just some random retired white guy with an okay career history if you creep him on linkedin. Just a normal run of the mill middle manager who has never been in government at any level. Don't think I could come up with a weaker candidate to run against a ~10 yr incumbent if I tried to.

I doubt that the student union will care. Student unions are inevitably run by activists seeking attention for their niche causes. They don't give a shit about anything else, certainly not the school administration, who they resent for existing, and certainly not the vast majority of students, who just want to go to class, party, and maybe get laid once in a while. Only the no-lifer, professional undergraduate political activist class gives a shit about the student union. Other, regular students discover 5 minutes after arriving on campus that the student union can't and won't do a damn thing for them.

I fear my riding is gonna go cons. It is NDP but cons were close. Gonna split the left vote this time :(

Fuck carney
NDP is fine if you're having a provincial election but they are dead ducks federally and always will be. It's a binary choice. The Dippers need to accept reality (I know. I'm asking a lot for Dippers to engage with objective reality, but still) and vote Liberal. Don't make utopia the enemy of good enough for the real world.

I'll be voting NDP as they seem most likely to beat the cons here
