New Canadian Politics Thread

This guy has googled "Donald Trump speeches" and then Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V'd the parts he likes.

Fuck.that.guy

The way he pretended that reporter hadn't even asked him the question she asked him and instead, with a shit-eating grin frozen on his face and as condescendingly as possible, led her through a Q&A on how awesome his rally sizes are was honestly kind of skin-crawling.

And that response just makes you circle back around to the basic point of the reporter's original question---outside of his committed base, who exactly does he think he's appealing to with that kind of behaviour?

I honestly think he and his inner circle must still resolutely believe that acting unapologetically Trumpy is the path to victory for him. It's been his strategy all along as CPC leader and he's going to stick with it.

If this guy was to win a majority, what are the odds he started to try to chip away at the non partisan nature of Elections Canada?

he already tried that once, as a Harper lieutenant, if my memory serves...

was he also responsible for the barbaric cultural practices snitch line too?

Kellie Leitch and then-immigration minister Chris Alexander were the two MP’s that announced that policy and were the public faces of it, as I recall.

I don’t remember Poilievre ever having any public association with it. And I doubt he had much to do with it behind closed doors either. Mostly by virtue of the fact that he was never an important or trusted part of Harper’s government, rather than it being something he would’ve disagreed with.

As for who came up with the idea, I’m not sure if anyone’s ever been conclusively credited/blamed with it. But my money would be on Jenni Byrne or Harper himself.

Don't really understand leaning in to the base right now. Trying to rile them up and banking on turnout? Or is there something in the polling that says GTA voters are super concerned about crime?

He’ll get all my coworkers with this message but then they all would’ve voted conservative anyway so yeah, I feel like only started flailing when Trump’s aggression started and people seemed not to trust him to deal with it,
