New Canadian Politics Thread

But are we mad?

Nope, he handled it exactly the way I wanted it handled.

Made it clear that respect for Canadian sovereignty was a precondition to the two of them speaking. Went and met with Macron and Starmer in person. And only after Trump’s people reached out to request a call about a week after Carney becoming PM did they speak. And immediately after & since that call, Trump referred to Carney by his proper title—Prime Minister.

If he starts back up with any of the “governor” or “51st state” bullshit, I would fully support and expect that communications between the two be cut off again. But if not, then yes, of course the Prime Minister of Canada and POTUS should speak.

I also like that Carney explicitly left the talks until after the election, when the PM who represents Canada will have a proper mandate.

I’m not convinced that 30% of Canadians are Trumpers. 30% of Albertans? Absolutely. 30% of CPC supporters? Probably true as well.

But for Canada as a whole, that number seems high to me, considering the polling on Canadian support for annexation has pretty consistently stayed at about 10%.
Not everyone exercises their right to vote though.

Is there any info on which groups in Canada are least likely to vote because I kinda suspect it might be also the most likely to vote PP?

If you’re a PP supporter though, wouldn’t you be extra motivated to vote the Liberals out after 10 years of being in power and vote the Liberals in? Kind of like the big turn out in 2015 to get rid of Harper.
