New Canadian Politics Thread

I love elections, I can pretend to care about the 90% of the country I've never been to, will never go to, might never of heard of, and could be swapped out with a riding in Narnia and I'd never notice.
I think Narnia-West is still too close to call.

I said it earlier this evening and I'll say it again---the smartest move for the NDP would be to make electoral reform before the next election one of their foundational demands if the Liberals need their support to get to 172.

So this is pretty much a Liberal win. NDP does not want an election anytime soon. And they don't need all of them.

When tonight is done, I think we're looking at about as durable a minority as you're going to get. There aren't too many planks in the Carney agenda that he's going to struggle finding another party who wants to be involved with. Housing and expansion of medical is easy NDP support. Defence spending is easy Bloq support, energy is probably easy Conservative support.

The needle Carney needs to thread is having the support in Quebec that largely won him his government, isn't the temporary support we saw from the quebec orange wave a few cycles ago. The french are fickle voters.

The other interesting bit is that I'm not convinced Poilievre is remotely safe in his job.

I'm so fucking ready for that

One of the main defenses of FPTP has traditionally been its tendency to produce “strong, stable majorities”.

Meanwhile five out of the last seven Federal elections in this country have produced minority governments. This election would make six out of eight if the Libs fail to claw their way to 172.

So let’s just fucking go with a system that most accurately reflects the will of the electorate and eliminates the need for “strategic voting” for good.

Goddamn do I ever need to go to sleep. Might have to throw in the towel & hope I wake up to good news on the Carleton & Liberal majority fronts.
