New Canadian Politics Thread

yah I cannot access archive.ph on my work computer so didn't see the OG article. but figured if it was linked it may be legit. who knows.

Apparently no Canadian shipyards placed any bids (they're currently pretty busy building Navy, Coast Guard, other ships, etc.,). Sure you ideally want it built locally, but the wait (until they're free) might take a long, long time.

shipyards exist in places other than China though... and I'm sure you can find ones that are not state-run communist enterprises

Canada has very little functional ship building, and most of that is already in the process of fucking up the Frigate order and delivering them at multiple times the cost UK shipbuilders are delivering the same ships at.

I'm all for building domestic industries, but when it's an industry that has a proven track record of drinking public funds dry and providing dogshit value for our tax dollars (looking at you Bombardier, Irving, etc...) well, the fuck are we supposed to do?

Not select shipbuilders that are part of the CCP? Surely those exist?

These articles “surrendering rights to the US” always pop up with every negotiation….going back to the original deal in the 80s

Back then it was “US will be allowed to take all out fresh water and there’s nothing we can do about it”

So, I’m taking this new panic with a grain of salt

Eh, I don't think any of those traditional labels are really accurate here. Traditional conservatives aren't keynsians economically. Carney isn't afraid to run a budget deficit. A traditional fiscal conservative would be pumping the idea of austerity right now, not nation building levels of spending.
