New Canadian Politics Thread

First time reading about that guy. Quite the story arc

Coming from a background of ski racers, Wedding learned to snowboard at his grandparents' ski resort, Thunder Bay's Mount Baldy.[4] He started his career at the age of 12 and won a bronze medal in the Parallel Giant Slalom at the 1999 Junior World Championship and a silver medal in the 2001 Junior World Championships
According to authorities, since his release, Wedding fled to Mexico and there became a high-ranking member of the Sinaloa Cartel (Mexico's largest drug cartel), where he is known by the nicknames "El Jefe," "Giant" or "Public Enemy".[16][17] The alleged second-in-command of Wedding's trafficking ring was arrested in Mexico in October 2024.[18][19] On 6 March 2025, Wedding was added to the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list,[3][20] replacing Alexis Flores.[3] The FBI is offering a reward of up to ten million United States dollars for his capture

our dumbass populist mayor in Halifax is taking several pages out of Dougie's playbook and it's infuriating.

tried to get council to approve a motion to pause all future bike lane development (bike lanes that were already funded in some cases). luckily council told him to get bent. he also waited for the budget to pass, which included some of this funding, was silent on funding bike lanes at the time, and now is coming out with this bullshit.

perhaps it was all just a ruse anyways, cause rumours are that Tim Houston is gonna give Andy (our mayor, former fatuous MP) 'strong mayor' powers, so he can override council.

oh, and Andy used to be a city planner, and was actually involved in drafting all the plans that he now wants to rip up. so he actually knows better, but is too busy being a populist ninny to care about actual good governance.

the source of the issue is that Halifax now has the 3rd worst traffic congestion in Canada, and 5th worst in North America, per a recent dutch study. which makes sense, cause the population exploded during covid, and then everyone got called back into work in person.

I cycle in to my office daily, so I have (literal) skin in the game, which may explain my rage. our roads have gone from generally pretty pleasant to the fucking hunger games too with this new influx of upper canadian shitass drivers.

anyways, Andy better not touch my fucking bike lanes. my ride is dangerous enough with the limited shitty infrastructure we have. also, riding in during rush hour is by far the most efficient way to get here. about a 12 min ride in - would take 15-20 mins to drive on an average day, and that's before paying to park and commuting from the parking to my tower.
