No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

I didnt watch much Chicago last year but i dont recall seeing him doing Bobby Orr cosplay over there. He was tasked to play alot of hard minutes for a very bad team and looked pretty good doing it.

I have no earthly idea what he's doing in Toronto.

We have always been suffocating due to lack of offense and puck movement from the blueline. Klingberg fills that need.

Are we better off with someone who is better defensively but mostly useless offensively, like we've always kinda had? I don't think we are. The offensive dman serves a purpose, but he needs to be paired with a real defensive dman. Like, Klingberg and Brodie sounds like something I'd roll with, and let Rielly and Lilly play together. McCabe goes to the third pair with Gio, and frankly should platoon with Timmins when he gets back (which will never happen) or gets shipped out of town.

Only problem with Rielly-Lilly and Kling-Brodie is that someone needs to play the heavies. Rielly-Brodie can do it at a relatively high level

I agree, but it's not an ideal situation, and we need to sort of play the cards we're dealt.

I still love LIlly and think he can be a monster if they let him...

Thing is the nerdies usually like McCabe. I'm not sure what's going on with him but he seems determined to do his best Ben Chiarot impression so far.

There can be something in between klingberg and schenn. Doesn't have to be one or the other!

Yup, but play them like this for now

Rielly-Brodie: Mixed usage, trending towards the heavies but not super heavy. Give them Auston-Mitch whenever you're heavy matching

McCabe-Lilly: McCabe needs to be reigned in, and traditionally hasn't been this bad. But Lilly is way more conscientious to cover for him if he keeps playing loose than Klingberg is. Mixed usage against whoever other than elite 5v5 lines in full d zone starts is probably fine.

Gio-Kling: If the old boy doesn't have the ability to cover for him in soft usage, Timmins takes Klings job when he's bad anyway. This pairing could potentially mash light usage matchups.

Eye test commentary - it feels easy to blame Reaves or Gregor...but are we sure Kampf isn't the problem?

I've frankly never liked the guy, was dismayed we gave him that long deal, and I rarely see anything positive on the ice (I know the response to this is normally that he's doing great if you don't notice him, but I notice him sucking). Meanwhile, I like what Gregor has been doing, and while Reaves isn't "good" he doesn't seem terrible either.

I would love to get rid of him honestly.

That $2.4M bothers me a lot considering the only time I notice Kampf is when he's tripping over his dick in the offensive zone.
