No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Reaves is such a shitty teammates, locker room guy too. Comes out and publicly complains. Just shut up and be grateful you aren’t riding the bus like your sorry excuse for a hockey players ass deserves.

Now a 27 year old journeyman is out a shot and a bunch of money.

Fuck that guy.

Who knew that making Tavares the main shot taker was a bad idea? Who knew?
Have you watched a PP of ours this season?

He barely touches the puck. His task is to stand in front of the net and not move. Any shots he gets to take are either off rebounds or deflections. It’s one of the reasons imo that he’s struggling.

The point of the post wasn’t that Tavares takes too many shots, but that Matty doesn’t take enough. But it’s not because of Tavares trying to tip or bury the rebounds of the shots from the other four guys.

The PP set up is shit and our coaches are the ones responsible for taking that dump.

Leafs rank 3rd in xgf/60 on the PP, and were 1st for a while before this recent cold snap.

The biggest problem is definitely that Tavares isn't converting anymore. Since he's getting the bulk of the slot chances his expected shooting percentage is the highest on the top unit, but his actual shooting percentage is the lowest.

Using unblocked shot attempts percentage, not just shooting percentage

Player: Unblovked Shots - Expected % - Actual %

Tavares: 69 - 15.1 - 5.8
Nylander: 70 - 8.9 - 11.8
Matthews: 51 - 12.7 - 24.2
Marner: 23 - 13.0 - 23.8
Rielly: 18 - 8.6 - 9.0

So all of them hitting at significantly better than expected shooting percentage other than Tavares, who is way, way below his expected rates.
His luck in that area has been tragic this year. He’s had a lot of good shots that just won’t go in.

One of the worst signings ever. You know it’s bad when you haven’t even signed the guy and most talking heads are like wtf are you doing and the message board are losing their shit. What the fucking hell was he thinking with this 3 year deal? And the 4 year deal for Kampf within the same week. Unbelievably stupid.

heh, convenient timing

Hey, McMann...you want to do us a solid and complain about your oblique for a week or two and still get paid your NHL rate or we can waive you and if you hurry you might be able to make the team bus on the way to South Dakota or wherever the fuck its going.

Your call bud.

PK Update:

Kampf 2:08, 10.28ga/60, 9.03xga/60 --- (0.65gf/60, 0.46xgf/60)
Marner 1:56, 9.23ga/60, 7.99xga/60 --- (0.69gf/60, 0.86xgf/60)

Jarnkrok 1:29, 8.32ga/60, 8.43xga/60 --- (0.90gf/60, 0.52xgf/60)
Gregor 1:10, 6.43ga/60, 6.76xga/60 --- (1.16gf/60, 1.05xgf/60)

Matthews 0:51, 3.12ga/60, 6.34xga/60 --- (1.90gf/60, 2.58xgf/60)
Nylander 0:45, 5.37ga/60, 10.18xga/60 --- (5.69gf/60, 2.36xgf/60)

Knies 0:23, 26.30ga/60, 8.85xga/60 --- (0.00gf/60, 0.15xgf/60)

Brodie 2:29, 9.93ga/60, 9.57xga/60
Giordano 2:20, 11.58ga/60, 8.96xga/60

McCabe 1:49, 7.31ga/60, 8.67xga/60
Lagesson 1:27, 4.46ga/60, 5.58xga/60

Benoit 1:23, 4.53ga/60, 7.13xga/60
Liljegren 1:22, 8.85ga/60, 7.33xga/60

Rielly 0:45, 10.98ga/60, 5.89xga/60

Now there's heavy usage skew on these as the top units are always up against top units, but we can still see some effects i think.

Kampf and Brodie, our #1 PK forward and dman, have not been great.

Marner our other top PK forward has been significantly better than Kampf even though they play a ton together. Jarnrkok hasn't been great either given he's not getting the prime usage. Gregor and especially Matthews come out looking really good, though they probably have significantly easier matchups. But Matthews has been SO good that he really probably should be getting much bigger PK usage. Decent chance he's our best PK forward. Matthews-Marner should probably be our #1 PK forward pair. And Gregor is probably legit good too.

On defense, Gio hasn't helped Brodie out much. McCabe has been better. I think we see the reason why Lagesson stayed in the lineup as long as he did - he seems to be legit great on the PK. Benoit seems to be legit good too though. And Lilly not far behind.

As with 5v5 Keefe is just trusting the wrong guys too much. He should trust Kampf , Gio and Brodie less and Lilly, Benoit and Robertson/Bertuzzi/Domi more.
