I just don't think the organization is aligned on the importance of the data, especially the coaching staff. It seems like the organization is pretty conventional in power structure as well, where the tail wags the dog more often than not. NHL coaches are given way too much input into roster decisions.

I'd imagine that they have proprietary/better shot/chance tracking and more data points that go into which shots are best/most dangerous. For example, we know that royal road passes prior to a shot improve the shot quality by a fuck ton. I'd be that their data can tell you by how much and from where on the ice the passes provide the biggest increase in SH%, etc, etc, etc.

Not all shots from the same spot are created equal, but simple heat maps treat them that way.
