funny thing being a leafs fan.

if i piece together "best possible rosters by Net Rating", the leafs rank 5th at +101, behind EDM at +120, and COL/CAR/VGK at +107. Ahead of WPG +98, FLA +95, and VAN/DAL at +91.

BUT, because it's the Leafs, when we look at "likely rosters", the Leafs are BY FAR the most negatively impacted by decisions on who to play.

Simply by playing all of Kampf, Gregor, Lyubushkin, Edmundson, Brodie (-38) over, say, Holmberg, Robertson, Timmins, Giordano, Benoit (+6), the Leafs would drop 44 points to +57, which would put them in the mix around 10th spot, which is......exactly where they are. shocking.

no other team has anything close to that.

EDM: Brown, Ryan, Ceci (-22) likely over Gagner, Holloway, Stecher (-9), brings them down 13 pts.
VGK: Martinez, Whitecloud (-3) maybe over Korcsak, Hutton (+10) brings them down 13pts.
CAR: Kuznetsov (-9) maybe over Kotkaniemi (-5) brings them down 4pts
COL: Duhaime, Johnson (-10) over Kiviranta, Jones (-6) brings them down 4pts
WPG: Pionk (-3) over Stanley (0) brings them down 3pts
NYR: Schneider (-6) over Ruhwedel (-5) brings them down 1pts.
FLA: doesn't look likely to put any of their worse net ratings guys in
BOS: doesn't look likely to put any of their worse net ratings guys in
VAN: doesn't look likely to put any of their worse net ratings guys in
DAL: doesn't look likely to put any of their worse net ratings guys in
LAK: doesn't look likely to put any of their worse net ratings guys in

This isn't to say that Net Rating is perfect and that none of those Leafs should play, but it is pretty fucking funny to me that we're the only team remotely close to this kind of very likely possibility.


We might get lucky, though - if Keefe is generous, maybe he keeps a guy like Holmberg in instead of Gregor, which would mean we're only sacrificing 30+pts of net rating instead of 40+.
 
I think Lilly, Holmberg, and even Robertson are going to make it tough for Keefe to Keefe us again when Marner and Krok return.
 
I just can't see him keeping Kampf and Boosh out of the lineup, or keeping Timmins in, which according to net rating kinda crushes us all by itself.

then again, net rating is almost certainly overrating timmins. he's still probably good, though, and it's probably right about kampf and boosh.
 
speaking of ratings, is Gustafsson still one of the all time greats?
