I mean I don't think they got insanely worse offensively back there, since it's not like Timmins was Erik Karlsson, but I do think they got worse.

But the point remains that they weren't good enough to begin with.
 
I do like the Laughton pickup. Assuming he can still play a decent center, we've needed a proper 3C for a long time. We have enough good offensive players to make up 2 scoring lines. And yes, they should try Robertson up there one day. If they're not scoring, that's on the players and the coach.

Also don't mind adding Carlo, though I'm not a fan of the price tag at all. If he can play like he did a couple of years, a 6'5 beast in the top 4 would be a nice addition for playoff hockey. Benoit-Timmins just not close to good enough even as a bottom pairing.
 
The other bit is that Carlo is replacing OELs top 4 minutes, not Timmins' or Benoit's minutes. It's a downgrade offensively. We'll see how much it matters. Maybe oel or Mo can eat shit up in a more sheltered third pair role anyway.

Carlo hasn't missed any significant time to any injury in his career as far as I can tell.

i'd imagine we'll see OEL taking away ozone starts from carlo.
 
The big difference is that the offensively inept slugs on this roster (other than Benoit) can move the puck quite well. It was a problem last year. Don't think it will be a major one this year but we shall see.
 
So I think I definitely always lean towards targeting just higher quality players in general but are we better than yesterday, yeah, I do think so. Is our D better than past playoff runs? Yeah I think so too.
