Wanted to take a look and see whether the discrepancy between our record and our nerdies had anything to do with QoC. seems like it might.
Vs 1-8: 14gms, 46.4xgf%, 82pt pace
Vs 9-16: 19gms, 52.0xgf%, 91pt pace
Vs 1-16: 33gms, 49.3xgf%, 87pt pace
So against the good teams things look pretty decent and normal. Not as good as we want to be vs the very top teams, but overall winning more than losing against the good teams, with pretty even nerdies. Funny note about the nerdies against the top-8 there is the biggest culprit in that weak number is the one game we got absolute smashed in the nerdies by the Kings (21%) while trouncing them by 4 goals 6-2. Maybe i should check whether we're doing something weird with the score effect stituations this year maybe.
Vs 17-24: 19gms, 49.1xgf%, 95pt pace
Vs 25-32: 19gms, 49.3xgf%, 138pt pace
Vs 17-32: 38gms, 49.2xgf%, 117pt pace
So here's where the overachiving the nerdies come in. We put up the same mediocre nerdies against the bad teams as we do against the good teams, but we smash them up on the scoreboard anyways. Why we don't put up better nerdies against the bad teams is a bit of a mystery to me. But this is also kind of funny - in previous years, we smashed the bad teams in the nerdies while often stumbling against them on the scoreboard, while this year we just smash them the scoreboard instead. I wonder if that means anything.
That being said the nerdie number against that top quartile there should be better. If we can't do better than 46.4xgf% in series against the contenders we're going to be in tough. Here are the actual 5v5 numbers against the top teams:
WSH (3gm, 1-2-0, -4): 7.89xgf, 7.24xga = 52.2xgf%
WPG (2gm, 1-1-0, -1): 4.90xgf, 4.16xga = 54.1xgf%
DAL (2gm, 1-1-0, -1): 2.91xgf, 4.22xga = 40.8xgf%
VGK (2gm, 1-1-0, +0): 3.82xgf, 4.83xga = 44.2xgf%
LAK (1gm, 1-0-0, +4): 0.95xgf, 3.48xga = 21.5xgf%
CAR (2gm, 1-1-0, +0): 5.16xgf, 5.25xga = 49.6xgf%
COL (2gm, 1-1-0, -2): 3.60xgf, 4.57xga = 44.1xgf%
TOR ---
FLA (2gm, 0-2-0, -5): 3.07xgf, 2.75xga = 52.8xgf%
EDM (2gm, 2-0-0, +2): 2.98xgf, 3.69xga = 44.7xgf%
TBL (3gm, 3-0-0, +7): 5.53xgf, 6.11xga = 47.5xgf%
We have 5 measuring stick games left on the year. Against the red hot Kings (5th overall), against the Canes (6th) with both teams on a back to back, 2 against the Panthers (9th) with the panthers on a back to back in the first one, and 1 against the Bolts (11th) with us on a back to back. All these games should matter for both teams so it'll be interesting to see how we look.
