OT: American Politics

At least some parallel here to George W. Bush in the 2000s. So many people supported the War in Iraq at the beginning, and very loudly too. But over time it slowly dawned to them that it was an illegal war, the 9/11 attackers were Saudi, there were no WMD in Iraq, the complete moral failing of Abu Ghraib, etc. they slowly started to come around one by one. Some acknowledging that they'd been wrong, but most just stepping backwards into the bushes like that Homer Simpson GIF.

Same thing will happen for Donald Trump supporters. One by one. And he is a million times worse person, and also a worse president than W.

"hot as a pistol" more Archie Bunker, old timey shit

Isn’t it more how much it will change if he wins?

Or will a Trump loss kick us back into the pre-Dotard timeline?

A trump loss could put us in a much better place than the pre-dotard timeline - a proven economic model of stimulus to the working class (bolstered by letting the massive trump tax cuts to corps expire), new safeguards on democratic norms (a wave of new legislation safeguarding the courts and elections), new safeguards on human rights, and new safeguards against autocratic tendencies worldwide (helped by the high likelihood of Putin finally being forced to tuck tail and run).

A trump win could put is in much darker place - a complete takeover of western democracies by the billionaire set (tax cuts upheld and offset by massive cuts to huge things like social security and medicare), elections and courts left in shambles, human rights left twisting in the wind, and a surge in autocracy worldwide (led by ukraine being handed to putin).

It's real big.

People don't quite realize how consequential a presidency Biden has had, and how much it would not only unravel but be completely reversed the other way more than ever before if trump wins.
