OT: American Politics

not sure what your pea-brain isn't getting here.

no one wants to go back to work "immediately" after labour. yes, women are going to find that a dumb thing to say.
paid parental leave is great
a woman's value isn't only in being a wife/mother.
some people actually have fulfilling careers they want to return to, not just shitty cubicle jobs
Not sure what you're not getting. He said it's possible a woman could have different preferences and shouldn't feel forced into a decision she's not comfortable with. You've somehow made that into a bad thing.

You contradict yourself. If a woman has a fulfilling career then it is possible they could want to go back to work immediately.

then it is possible

That's not what he said though. He said, in the definite, that "lots of women" want to go back immediately. Sure, anything is possible but it's just not likely. An easy example is doctors. Maybe the most personally fulfilling career possible. Not only is it rare that female doctors not take maternity leave after giving birth, approx 60% of them don't return to full time practice after their maternity leave ends (https://www.bmj.com/content/376/bmj.o635) and opt for part time practice.

We have to strain the meaning of "a lot" to arrive at "it's possible".

In canada it's 12 or 18 months of maternity and parental leave... of course you can choose to take 0 but for a choice to exist you have to actually offer a solution for the 99.999999999999% of women (and men) who want time with the child they just had.
