OT: American Politics

The thing is, Soros is one of the most successful traders in history...with a net worth of $7 Billion.
He's not exactly Robin Hood.

I have a better idea: go back to the system they had back in the 60's when all these now Republican Boomers were in college. State schools for in state residents: free (or almost free) tuition.
Ok. Convince the universities they don’t get all the bloated salaries and staffs. And the dorms don’t need to be 5 star hotels.

I mean people should be able to go to school. Loans help pay for tuition and living expenses. Schools do need to be held accountable for how insanely expensive it's become to go to them though, I agree.

I don't buy the argument saying, what about the people who paid their loans, I mean I get that it sucks but we have to be smarter moving forward. It's not a legit argument to say we shouldn't decriminalize marijuana or raise the speed limit on a road where it's obviously needed because people in the past were charged with possession or given speeding tickets. The past is not the future, that's the whole point of government fixing things that are broken.
It’s not a government problem to fix. The government shouldn’t be tasked with fixing the shitty decisions people make. Or where do you start. If the govt is responsible for you then they also have to be able to mandate your actions. That’s what freedom is about.

If you’re an adult you can make your own decisions and live with the results - freedom, or someone else can make your decisions for you and take care of you -slavery.

Why shouldn’t they pay back everyone who ever took out a loan. Why penalize those who actually made sound decisions on loans and degrees and budgets?

This is a huge problem, and yes it can be a good idea for the government to address massive societal problems. This is not penalizing people who made "sound decisions", it's helping people drowning in debt.

And getting a better education is absolutely 100% never a "shitty decision". What a bizarre thing to say.

Borrowing money you’re never going to be able pay back because you didn’t apply yourself and flunked out or because you pursued a worthless degree is a shitty decision. It’s a loan. They’re adults. How do you decide which people drowning in debt get bailed out? It absolutely is penalizing those that paid off their loans or worked their butts off to get through school without loans. Their tax dollars go to pay off these loans.

So you prefer a society full of young people who have no hope of buying a house, and are also facing decades of debt. That's cool, guess we'll just have to disagree on this one. Let's also tell them their degree is worthless and they're shitty people for trying to better themselves while we're at it.

As Scott Galloway often points out, old rich people have rigged the system to benefit themselves, built up a massive debt that young people will have to deal with down the road, made it almost impossible to get ahead or own a house, while simultaneously ruining the environment. Fuck everyone else, as long as your stock portfolio keeps hitting record heights then who gives a shit, eh?
