OT: American Politics

The bill was horse shit and codified how many illegals to actually let in on a yearly basis in the future, and if I recall it increased year by year.

You're just proving your actually against womens rights with the trans thing. And, wow, reading the rest of it you're a straight up sexist. Mask off moment, clearly.

I'm actually not against student loan forgiveness. More feasible and reasonable than a bunch of bullcrap the country spends money on.

His sexism has never been masked. Just ask him about failed female tennis players.

Regardless of your position on abortion, if a woman requires medical attention and especially if her life is in jeopardy, she should get whatever attention is required to keep her alive.

If that attention requires the termination of a pregnancy, get the fuck out of the way and let doctors do their job.

Look, I think the Biden Administration made a mistake on immigration and too many people came into the country the last few years. There are reasons for this, some legit, some not. I also think there is a lot of gaslighting on this issue from the right, because many people came in during previous administrations too, including Trump.

It is simply a fact that a lot of illegal immigrants are there doing jobs that most Americans don't want to do. This applies to many other countries too, including Canada. The vast majority are normal people like anyone else. Of course there is a big uproar any time a crime is committed, but the right made a huge deal a few months ago blaming Biden for a document showing a large # of immigrants who had committed crimes, but when people looked into the numbers, it was an all-time list, including a lot of people who came into the US betwen 2016-2020.

This shouldn't be controversial to say, yes arrest and deport illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes. Of course if someone stole a loaf of bread to feed their family, maybe treat them like any US citizen who would do that.

And I would like your opinion on trying to deport people who were born in the US. Seriously, please think about this logically. Imagine you're a young person born in the United States, grew up in this culture, and have never lived in or even visited any other country. Maybe your parents came in illegally, but you were not even fucking born yet. Why should you be punished for that? Let's say this applied to you, Cmon. Where the fuck should you even be deported to? You have never even been in another country! You were born in the USA and are therefore an American citizen, 100%, full stop, no exceptions. Anybody who advocates for this evil is sick in the brain and should never be in any position of power ever again in their lives.

Trump's wall was a joke, we have seen videos of people climbing over or through the tiny portions of that wall in 30 seconds, most people just walk around it, and a huge chunk of the money provided by Trump's suckers fanboys was stolen by Steve Bannon and other Trump associates before it even got to the people doing the "building" (seriously, look it up).

Bottom line is that this is a problem, get a bipartisan group together to write a bill to try and fix it. Oh wait they did do that in the spring, but Trump had it kiboshed because it might be bad for him politically. Figure out the best way to handle this, but deporting 12 million people is IMO as sick and depraved idea. It is immoral, will result in massive suffering, will lead to camps, and could lead to a massive recession because many of these jobs are low-paying hard work but essential for the economy.
On the border. Fix it so it’s not a sieve and we’re not just allowing anyone in. Then figure out what to do with the people here that shouldn’t be.

Some need to go some should stay. It’s been 50 years of this crap.

Biden and Harris didn’t give a crap about it until they saw it was going to cost them the election.

There are several stretches of the border where a structure is impossible to construct. More border patrols would take care of the issue.

The real solution is further down the map. Giving people reasons to not leave their corrupt country in the first place.
Impossible as that is.

I highly doubt anyone in central or South American is ever going to have more opportunity than in the US

No one disagrees with safe legal and rare fwiw

Student loans is pretty simple. Students were told that loans help them get through college or university, which will lead to a high-paying job that will enable them to pay them back. This did not happen for many people, who are stuck with massive debt that will take a decade or more to pay off, in addition to facing the extremely difficult process of buying a home, which is already almost impossible. I don't really understand why you would be against this, it's just good policy IMO.
Students signed up for the loans. They shouldn’t have ever been made. Universities selling the idea that you’re going to be able to get a great high paying job in all kinds of areas of study that are not needed and just follow your dreams etc. the universities should refund their students for misleading them and charging exorbitant prices to attend. Plus the structure of 4 years for a basic degree to make sure they get their money. If you borrowed 100k for an inane invaluable degree did you not look into that before? Or how much of that was so you could live in the posh dorm while you were there.

My solution would be:
First stop the problem. Get rid of school loans. Or make them follow typical standards like we’re not loaning you 25k per year to get a degree that pays 40k per year. And make it qualified on maintaining a minimum gpa etc.

Then allow students to sue universities for excessive tuition charges. Regardless of if they have loans.

Why should a 28 year old nurse who worked her way through school pay taxes to reimburse the 30 year old drama major who borrowed $150k so he/she could stay in a nice dorm in an expensive private school and also spend a couple summers abroad and who still goes on a couple high dollar vacations every year?

No argument here. From almost anyone. Although Harris campaign implied that Trump was against this.

The US Supreme Court (and Red States) have intentionally kept "Life of the Mother" exception as vague as possible.

Can you tell me what "life of the mother" means? Like is it when she is coding? Is it when she is septic? How many hours does she have to be dying before you can give her an abortion?

Is it a "reasonable" decision from the Doctor? What does "reasonable" mean?

There are some lawyers in this thread that can tell you all about the minutia of law, and by keeping it vague means that the "life of mother" expectation acts like a full ban while giving Christians some moral cover.

do you support the border bill drafted by OK Senator James Langford, which was scuppered by Trump?

pretty sure the border patrol folks were big fans

And Trump killed the deal because he doesn't give a crap about anything but his own ass. The border deal would have ribbed Trump of his favorite fear-based narrative: the Latino rapists coming over the border to rape white women. So he ordered his party to kill it because he doesn't actually care if white women get raped (he's raped a few himself and they weren't always women either) so long as he gets to keep his talking point.

Absolutely I do not. If they were fans, why did their union endorse Trump? They endorsed it because it was better than the all out free movement the Biden admin currently was allowing

I have a better idea: go back to the system they had back in the 60's when all these now Republican Boomers were in college. State schools for in state residents: free (or almost free) tuition.
