OT: American Politics

Surely you can see that WeHave can go over the top sometimes in his rhetoric. I mean this has got to be obvious, right? I agree we should tone down the name calling, it doesn't serve any purpose and I don't agree with everything he says. But twice last night you mentioned the left's "extreme agenda" so I asked for a list of exactly what you were talking about. Which I couldn't help but notice that you did not provide while continuing the "woe is me all you guys do is insult" crusade.

There’s no woe is me crusade. But tell me why I should continue to participate in a discussion with you/on this board if every post I send results in name calling? That’s juvenile. And honestly undermines your group perception that you guys on the left are so much smarter than us “country redneck dumbfucks”.

Why do you assume that was somehow beyond my grasp? I don’t care in the least what you think of me. You don’t know me at all. You resorted to name calling and think you’re clever by using an insult you think everyone on the right uses. None of the people I associate with use any of those names as insults- well bitch maybe. Your response to my comments was name calling. Very mature. You’re so very clever. You should play 3d chess with Trump.
I haven't insulted you. I have no reason to.

Flyguy is another issue. He is stupid. He has insulted everyone on the this thread and made derogatory comments to our female posters.
His frame of reference on any subject is either an easily disprovable X/Twitter feed or some RW nonsense online that is clearly manufactured.

Not my fault you're a science denier.

And yeah, the the anticipatory comments about how I'd be treated after a "kamala landslide" have influenced how I've behaved,

You've actually "behaved" better since the election. And wasn't that just wehave?

The Dems were ready to pass an extremely draconian border policy, a policy that had widespread Republican support. But then Trump ordered his minions in Congress to kill it so as to prevent the Dems from having a political "win". All that proves is that the GOP doesn't really give a shit about the border at all. It's just something they can use to fundraise off of. Oh and the racism of course. Can't forget that.

Abortion is a Constitutional right. No argument from me. It is. It should be. And if you don't like abortion you should be free not to get one. Otherwise you can fuck off and stay out of people's business. You know, personal freedom? It's not just for carrying guns, y'know.

Trans people in sport? Something that affects approximately. 001% of 1% of the nation and doesn't affect you at all. Who gives a shit if a so-called "biological man" competes against women? Women's sports are a joke to begin with. This won't make them any less legitimate.

Pay.off student loans - a great idea, especially when one considers what a racket higher education actually is. The GOP Boomers who hate this all went to college in the 60's basically for free so they can also take a big bite out of my sweaty ass. Noblesse oblige, bitches.

Look, I think the Biden Administration made a mistake on immigration and too many people came into the country the last few years. There are reasons for this, some legit, some not. I also think there is a lot of gaslighting on this issue from the right, because many people came in during previous administrations too, including Trump.

It is simply a fact that a lot of illegal immigrants are there doing jobs that most Americans don't want to do. This applies to many other countries too, including Canada. The vast majority are normal people like anyone else. Of course there is a big uproar any time a crime is committed, but the right made a huge deal a few months ago blaming Biden for a document showing a large # of immigrants who had committed crimes, but when people looked into the numbers, it was an all-time list, including a lot of people who came into the US betwen 2016-2020.

This shouldn't be controversial to say, yes arrest and deport illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes. Of course if someone stole a loaf of bread to feed their family, maybe treat them like any US citizen who would do that.

And I would like your opinion on trying to deport people who were born in the US. Seriously, please think about this logically. Imagine you're a young person born in the United States, grew up in this culture, and have never lived in or even visited any other country. Maybe your parents came in illegally, but you were not even fucking born yet. Why should you be punished for that? Let's say this applied to you, Cmon. Where the fuck should you even be deported to? You have never even been in another country! You were born in the USA and are therefore an American citizen, 100%, full stop, no exceptions. Anybody who advocates for this evil is sick in the brain and should never be in any position of power ever again in their lives.

Trump's wall was a joke, we have seen videos of people climbing over or through the tiny portions of that wall in 30 seconds, most people just walk around it, and a huge chunk of the money provided by Trump's suckers fanboys was stolen by Steve Bannon and other Trump associates before it even got to the people doing the "building" (seriously, look it up).

Bottom line is that this is a problem, get a bipartisan group together to write a bill to try and fix it. Oh wait they did do that in the spring, but Trump had it kiboshed because it might be bad for him politically. Figure out the best way to handle this, but deporting 12 million people is IMO as sick and depraved idea. It is immoral, will result in massive suffering, will lead to camps, and could lead to a massive recession because many of these jobs are low-paying hard work but essential for the economy.

The bill was horse shit and codified how many illegals to actually let in on a yearly basis in the future, and if I recall it increased year by year.

You're just proving your actually against womens rights with the trans thing. And, wow, reading the rest of it you're a straight up sexist. Mask off moment, clearly.

I'm actually not against student loan forgiveness. More feasible and reasonable than a bunch of bullcrap the country spends money on.

Remember when Congress told Trump they didn’t have room in the budget for a wall? What a load of horseshit. It was an absolute FRACTION of what has been spent on Ukraine. And may even be cheaper than the deportations are going to be

Stop pretending that deportations are ever going to actually happen. These people will be put into concentration camps and brutalized.

Also, walls haven't worked since the Middle Ages.

Now I want to try and quickly (lol) reply to these other points. Abortion is absolutely a right. I understand many countries do have limits of around 16 weeks. I just don't see the point in these ridiculous 6 or 12 week bans, one of the main conservative issues over the last few decades (and I might add one of the few they were right about) is the need to keep government away from regulating people's personal decisions when it isn't necessary to do so. Abortion should be between the mother, father and doctor. The government should not be in your bedroom monitoring what 2 consenting adults are doing, forcing birth, saying you can't marry the person you've fallen in love with, etc. It is immoral and not what the government is there for. It's insane that the party of "personal responsibility" has done a complete 180 on this. #SAD!

Pro-choice allows every person to make decisions about their own body and how they plan to live over the next 18 years. Without getting into a much longer paragraph, women are dying unnecessarily due to the removal of Roe vs. Wade. Which by the way was described as "settled law" by a couple of people who lied under oath in order to get onto the Supreme Court. Maybe you can explain why we have hearings for something as important as becoming a member of the Supreme Court, if the person is just allowed to lie their way through the hearing?

This decision is also leading to doctors refusing to work in red states, because they aren't particularly interested in going to jail for helping to save a woman's life. This situation will only get worse and worse affecting all aspects of medical treatments in red states in the coming years.

Student loans is pretty simple. Students were told that loans help them get through college or university, which will lead to a high-paying job that will enable them to pay them back. This did not happen for many people, who are stuck with massive debt that will take a decade or more to pay off, in addition to facing the extremely difficult process of buying a home, which is already almost impossible. I don't really understand why you would be against this, it's just good policy IMO.

As for biological men not playing women's sports, I agree. Surprised? Okay, now do you understand how much of a nothingburger this actually is? Read the quote below. This is virtually a non-issue, which has been blown ten million times out of proportion by the constant, CONSTANT hate-filled rhetoric of the right, demonizing trans people every day, all day, people who are already going through the ringer of an extremely difficult decision. All we are really saying is stop harassing these people with so much hate, show a little compassion and if it really bothers you that much, just ignore it. What someone does with their own body (see above) is their own business.

But as for the sports issue itself, you have been lied to by the right-wing propaganda machine yet again. Do you remember a tweet someone posted a day or two ago, where some people thought trans was 21% of the population, when in reality it's less than 1%? There have always been trans people, in ancient Greece, in Nazi Germany, I remember stories about Led Zeppelin getting blow jobs from some trannies in the early 1970s. Please ask yourself why you care so much about this tiny group of people?

"Of the estimated 332 million citizens living in the United States, 1.3 million adults and 300,000 youth ages 13 to 17 identify as transgender, equaling half a percent and 1.4 percent of the population respectively, according to a report published by Williams Institute, a think tank at UCLA's Law School in 2022.

Not all transgender people identify as women, and an even smaller number consists of transgender women hoping to compete in girls' and women's sports.

Privacy laws make it tough to identify the exact number of transgender athletes competing in public school sports, but researcher and medical physicist Joanna Harper estimates the number can't exceed 100 nationwide.

"While we don't know the exact number of trans women competing in NCAA sports, I would be very surprised if there were more than 100 of them in the women's category," Harper told Newsweek.

One hundred transgender athletes would comprise an incredibly small number of the U.S. population, and the number dwindles even further when it comes to middle school and high school athletes."

Gillian Branstetter, a spokesperson for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said the number of transgender athletes isn't comprehensive, but she's also certain it's a very small portion of the nation's population. Branstetter told Newsweek that Save Women's Sports, an organization advocating for banning transgender athletes from competing in girls' sports, identified only five transgender athletes competing on girls' teams in school sports for grades K through 12.
