The funny bit about this is that the "Iron Dome" is really just an integrated air defence network that is special amongst peer technologies because it uses low cost intercept projectiles. Israeli enemies lob 50 yr old rocket tech at them and intercepting that with a 5 million dollar patriot missile is a good way for your enemy to bankrupt your military without much investment on their end. There's nothing really special about it beyond that. It's good tech, but better than Aegis or THAAD? Nah.

The continential US has very, very different missile defence needs by virtue of the big, fuck off oceans on either side of it. The Iron Dome can't intercept ICBM's (nothing in existence can do so reliably...the best method is literally to shoot a small nuclear warhead at it and detonate that close enough to it to destroy it)...and the US can only be reached by ICBM's.

This is part of the tragedy that is Trump. Even when he has ideas that are useful on the surface, he's such a proper idiot that there's a near zero chance that his solution will be effective, cost effective, viable, etc.
