Canada joining the EU doesn't mean they can't still trade with the US, and NAFTA never prohibited anyone from joining other economic alliances.

Essentially we are paying into a fund to help the past generation retire comfortably.

People tend to believe their current CPP payments are put away for them in 20 years.
