OT: American Politics

- EO designating cartels as terrorist organizations
- Hegseth is asked about military strikes in Mexico re hit cartels, will not rule it out
- trade war with false pretext that Canada has cartels operating/huge issues with fentanyl streaming into US
- another EO incoming designating them weapons of mass destruction, which has obvious callbacks to Iraq war

Can we just use our brains here re: this is going in a very, very dark direction?

I'm sure somewhere in the mountains of BC someone is cooking fent. So I have no doubt they'll start by raiding what they can find. When they run out of low hanging fruit, they'll then claim the problem is centred around the Colombia river valley area (Castlegar to Revelstoke). Why? Where do you think the big water faucet Donald was talking about in BC is? The dams in Castlegar and further up north in Revelstoke.

So if they tried to occupy that to control the flow of the colombia river, what would we do? Go to war over one river?

sure hope so. invoke Article 5 while we're at it.

sovereignty is either a thing, or it isn't. not really half measures there.

Heh.

Ukraine has been smashing Russian energy infrastructure. Putin only agrees to things that wildly benefit him. So now Putin agrees to not target energy infrastructure, but he'll continue targeting civilian infrastructure. The Ukies will have to stop blowing up refineries and pipeline infrastructure and focus entirely on military targets, the majority of which they've already beat this shit out of within range of their borders.

I don't see why the Ukrainians would accept this nonsense though? like, they'll just keep attacking, won't they?

Putin goes crying to Trump about how his refineries keep blowing up even though he's being a super sweetheart by not targeting Ukie energy infrastructure like he promised, Trump uses that as an excuse to give Putin what he wants. To force Ukraine into a "ceasefire" where the US stops providing weapons and intel.

With that said, if I'm the Ukies, I would need the presidential draw down material on it's way (no more is going to get approved, we know this) and that the French and UK going replace US intel for targeting and air defence...and I'd say fuck it and keep clapping refineries. The path to actual victory in all of this for Ukraine isn't through negotiating with the US and Russia. It's through cratering the Russian energy industry and bankrupting the Russian government. The wheels are starting to come off over there already.
