OT: American Politics

- EO designating cartels as terrorist organizations
- Hegseth is asked about military strikes in Mexico re hit cartels, will not rule it out
- trade war with false pretext that Canada has cartels operating/huge issues with fentanyl streaming into US
- another EO incoming designating them weapons of mass destruction, which has obvious callbacks to Iraq war

Can we just use our brains here re: this is going in a very, very dark direction?

this is gonna make for some sort of interesting psychology thought experiments, if science survives this regime.

cause we mostly agree on the facts, i.e. what is happening now.

but even on this board, there is wide disagreement about what it means, i.e. what is going to happen next.

I'm with you here - we're heading in a very dark direction, the likes of which we've never actually seen or experienced firsthand in our lifetimes (i.e. concentration camps, state sanctioned murders, using the military on your own people, territorial expansion attempts, eviscerate and make a mockery of rule of law, etc. (aka fucking authoritarianism)).

I would love to hear an 'everything is fine' poster explain where they think we are going, based on the same facts.
 
Just to be accurate, it doesn't even sound like they think everything is fine, they just think our response to it is over the top/we're getting ahead of ourselves.

But imo, that's really an issue because if too many people see 1, 2, 3, 4 and think "well, it looks like we're getting to 5 but let's not freak out until it happens", you're never really going to get the protests you need until it's much too late. At a certain point, you have to project where this is going a little better.

yah it's like if you see that the highway you're doing 120+ on ends up ahead with a sheer cliff. you can try and get off the highway ASAP, or wait it out and assume that no one would design a highway that would kill you so obviously something other than everyone dying will take place.

that's probably not the best analogy. hopefully someone will set me straight and explain the alternative position...
