What they initially proposed would have required brands to potentially change the names of their product to french unless they registered marks - which is an impediment to innovation because 1) it tips your hand (filing is public) and more importantly 2) is a 2ish year process.I’ve taken issue before with the sometimes over-the-top scope, application and enforcement of Quebec’s language laws.
Still though, it strikes me as insanely arrogant to raise a trade dispute over the fact that the foreign country you want to sell your goods to requires that they be labelled in its foreign language.
