daylight savings time is pretty irrelevant in actual summer - it really does not ever need to be light out until like 10 pm. days are long in summer cause we live kinda far north, not cause of some stupid extra hour we added.

and if we do permanent dst, some people will arrive at and depart from their offices in darkness. every single day. it's not 5 am - would be more like 8 or 9 am.
 
In Edmonton the sun hardly even fully sets in the summer. If drive-in movies were still a thing I'm not sure how you could manage it here unless the show started at midnight.

In the winter, we get about 6 hours of daylight max.
