OT: American Politics

and I'm pretty certain that actual scientists who look at this agree with me that permanent standard time is healthier for us than permanent stupid time
Or, even better, they can just maintain the status quo and tell people to stop whining. They already extended DST by 6 weeks (starting 3 weeks earlier in the spring and ending 3 weeks later in the fall) They don't need to fool with it any further.

Non US markets have grossly underperformed the SPX for a very long time.

Some reversion was expected (it’s why I tinkered with my RRSP) but unfortunately the catalyst (Trump) isn’t great

The US gravy train was eventually going to end yeah, I mean I've been posting about it in the nerd thread since 2021; oops I was 4 years too early I guess (though in 2022 you were rewarded for not being overweight US).

Last year spooked me. I tinkered mid year to buy some more Canada and Europe. Thankfully I haven't been crushed that badly this year as a result of that. But it made me feel stupid up until early this year. The stock market is funny like that.

I have an autistic nephew and it's the same thing. He's nearly 26 but has the sense of humor of your average 13 year old. Has laser focus on small things that don't matter or on slights, real or perceived, which occurred years ago that he won't let go of, can be perfectly rational one minute then enraged to the point of him grabbing a big knife from the kitchen and making threats with it the next. He couldn't hold down a part time gig walking dogs and will likely never be able to work a real job that requires him to have any level of responsibility.

But if he had been born rich like Elon I guess he'd be running DOGE right now and that should be terrifying for all of us.

We all tend to feel stupid unless we catch the absolute bottom or top…. Which is obviously silly…. As long as you catch the meat of the move, you are killing it

no surprise...Trump wants to make it harder for Securities and Exchange Commission to catch illegal trading

from Marketwatch

In the past year, fraud investigations at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission started to benefit from a trade-tracking system that took 15 years and cost $1 billion to build.

It has already helped uncover insider-trading schemes and market manipulations that older surveillance systems would have missed.

The SEC’s new bosses are considering killing or impairing the system, calling it an unwarranted invasion of investors’ privacy and too costly to operate.

Newly confirmed SEC Chairman Paul Atkins helped draft the conservative manifesto, Project 2025, which calls for the CAT’s termination.

Some investor advocates see it otherwise. “The purpose of the CAT is to make it easier for the SEC to identify and catch crooks that are perpetrating market disruptions and manipulations,” says Ben Schiffrin, the director of Securities Policy at the investor advocacy group Better Markets. “I can’t understand why the industry wouldn’t be a fan of the CAT.”
