OT: American Politics

That's one of the least insane points on the list.

That one is at least just dumb. A modern military is highly specialized, with highly specialized training required for most positions inside of it. The only reason in the modern context for having this type of service is manpower being limited by whatever factor (for example, Finland, Estonia, etc where they have small populations and share a border with a large, aggressive population).

The US military doesn't need 10 million people in it, constantly rotating in and out of it as soon as they have any sort of training.

A bunch of the rest in that list though...insane.

We have just seen the exact opposite act out in real time. Soft power got everything and more than Trump is currently demanding in a deal with Iran, that he's thrown the world into chaos trying to use hard power to get, and failing badly. Hard power is a game of chicken with regime leaders who can't afford to not drive head on into you. The thing about authoritarian regimes is that they don't survive capitulating to threats of violence. But using soft power to get a deal that doesn't threaten their hold on power within the country is a winner for everyone.

For anyone curious to read the whole thing, most of the points are like this. A delusional worldview that surprise, surprise, promotes the life or death level importance of the tech sector and their surveillance state.

Manifesto:

1. Different cultures cannot coexist.

2. Our culture must win.

3. The only way to win is not diplomacy but hard military power.

4. The most important hard military power going forward is our software.

Not as concise as your points, but to sum up # 8,9,10,16-20:

5. Silicon Valley billionaires (and the AI we own) should be the new centre of power in society, not government. Discussing the limits of these powers is dangerous and should not be done. In addition, we (and our chosen political acolytes) are the only people who should expect privacy in the future, and further to that, whatever we say in public shouldn't be held against us.

The thing about this manifesto is that you uncover new and dangerous bullshit whenever you think to string multiple, disparate on the surface, points together. For example, put the military portions together with the Silicon valley/AI portions and you pretty quickly come up with unaccountable AI systems making decisions about war, and what to fight, who to kill, etc within it (basically Skynet Lite). Now put the military portions together with the cultural superiority shit and you arrive in Nazi land pretty quickly. Now put the re ordering of societal power together with the military parts and you easily arrive at a new tech aristrocracy officer class running a conscripted miltary instead of a professional military from top to bottom, with civilian oversight. Basically, it calls for exchanging the American military tradition with the Prussian military tradition, but add AI.

To explain the last point a bit better...

The people who will get deferments from military conscription will be those on their way to get the right education (Ivy league, etc). The only people who can get those educations are people from the wealthy classes. When those deferments end (after graduation) that class will immediately get given officer roles (while kids from lesser backgrounds enter from the bottom) and promotions will be given preferentially to those with the right education until within a generation the leadership class in the military will all be from wealthy families.

This is how most military cultures in the world functioned before WW1 broke them, because mechanization made it so that industrial scale death could happen if a single rich morons stupid son decided to lead a charge into machine gun fire. Military cultures fairly quickly evolved into rough meritocracies because they simply couldn't suffer fools making decisions that wasted men and materials. The wealthy class wants absolute control of the military back though because it's the single biggest risk to their power once democracy is "defeated". The best way to do that is to install an aristrocratic adjacent military officer class as the more or less hereditary leaders of the military.

Honestly everyone should read this manifesto because this is the only political divide that actually matters right now.

I thank them for publishing it tbh.
