OT: American Politics

Exactly what I was saying, Neil wants people to join him until Spotify is forced to cancel Joe Rogan.

Please stop using that stupid, stupid usage of the word cancel.

Yes, Neil is protesting Spotify providing a platform to someone peddling dangerous disinformation.

Hey, if you want to use the coded language created by literal fascists as part of their culture war, thats up to you man.

All that Rogan has broken axl. See what I mean when I say he's dangerous? You listen to a dude enough times and you start to believe him no matter how moronic he is!

Joe Rogan spent an hour trying to convince an astrophysicist that the moon landing was fake.

he spent 4 hours intently listening to a drug addicted psychologist spew complete nonsensical verbal diarrhea about gnome underpants without challenging him on a single thing.

there’s no slippery slope by Spotify telling to pound sand. He’s an idiot with a huge platform. That’s a dangerous game.

a platform he created himself, and if Spotify ever felt like parting ways with their biggest acquisition, Rogan could leave to another service or go indie and not lose a single listener.

you seem to be bestowing great power to Spotify, they are not even close to having semi monopoly powers (unlike Apple, Facebook, Amazon) — podcasts can live anywhere

i get that.

i was (pretty clearly) addressing the slippery slope argument - not the impact that spotify deplatforming him would or wouldn't have on his audience size.

of course, rogan being their biggest acquisition may be why the likes of young and mitchell - who basically earn nothing by being on the platform - are more than happy to be martyrs.

I wouldn’t defend Rogans vax positions. IMO he is clearly letting his bias creep in. It’s evident with how much scrutiny he handles questioning someone like Gupta vs Malone etc.

But I very strongly disagree with the notion that certain people are too dangerous and must be silenced.

First of allwho decides that other than the market, which has clearly spoken with regard to Joe. Also, you will necessarily silence ideas that are right in the name of protecting yourself from ideas that are wrong. It’s like not having the death penalty because if you do you will definitely kill some innocent people.

And maybe most importantly, I want to know exactly who the dangerous people are. those are the ones you don’t want hiding in the shadows. Rogan is pretty harmless though. If someone is taking medical advice from a podcast the podcast isn’t their problem.

i think that misses the mark. rogan's bread and butter was having smart, interesting people on his show and giving them a platform to speak candidly, judgment free with nearly unlimited space to fill.

he's still doing that, but with complete cranks who are spreading bullshit.

that's the problem here. he is passing these phony grifters off as serious and legitimate people.
