OT: American Politics

Ironically, to everyone here, you've only ever worn a Leaf jersey.
I actually thought about that as I was typing. In truth that photo isn't me, although I still have plans to get one made. But mine will be a classic 70's Ballard era jersey just to add that chef's kiss to the whole ensemble. I just can't decide between white or blue.

It's real when you prefer your team to go 8-72 if all eight wins were against that arch rival; than 72-8 if all 8 losses were to that arch rival.:)

(ok, I swiped that from "The Count")

the best part is when habs fans pretend they care more about the bruins.
I've never been one of those Habs fans. Bruins fan was only ever an issue when they bussed up to Montreal for a Saturday night game. Even then they mostly fought amongst themselves when one guy would make a pass at another's girlfriend. At least when the Nordiques came to town their fans fought with our fans. Those Boston guys couldn't handle more than a couple of Brador's before they lost their minds.

We also hated the Nords more than the Bruins. They were really the only team that came close to knocking off the Leafs from the top of the hate heap.

But my rule has always been that the team from Toronto represents the greater evil, the bigger existential threat. Consequently I have absolutely no trouble cheering for the Bruins whenever they play the Leafs in the playoffs. I also hate the Flyers but loved watching them eliminate Toronto a few years back.

I similarly had no problem rooting for Boston in the finals against the Canucks in 2011, because I lived in Vancouver and detested their fairweather, nouveau-riche fanbase. But in 1994 I proudly wore my "TORONTO SUCKS" t-shirt to the Coliseum to watch the Canucks pound the Leafs in the Conference Finals. Then I rooted for them in the Finals against the Rangers, mostly because I hated Messier and Keenan more (and because I knew that Bettman wanted New York to win)

I'd sooner see just about any US based team win the Cup than any other Canadian team. Most US teams neither please nor offend me.

It's hilarious when someone hates another team more than they like their own. Not hilarious in the way you think though.
The hate makes it great. Nothing worse than watching a game in which neither team inspires the least bit of emotional energy. New Jersey vs Carolina anyone?

Anyone?

For real: you are wrong. Maybe it depends on age and where one grew up (I was surrounded with Bruins hammerheads), but it’s pretty cut and dry for a lot of Habs fans. Bruins are enemy #1.
Unless you actually live in New England I doubt that you were surrounded by Bruins fans. Trust me, you don't want to live in a world in which the Leafs win a Cup. Seeing them almost make the finals a couple of times was bad enough and thankfully the internet and social media was either not a thing or much lesser of a thing the last time they got that far.

Go with Blue. They were ugly on television. The white were "less ugly" but only slightly.
