OT: American Politics

Oh Joe threw that word around constantly back in the day. A lot of it was part of his comedy. He was a struggling, and not very good, comic that needed to rely on shock humor. I didn't think anyone cared.

Not to excuse him but that wasn't completely uncommon for many untalented, unfunny comics in those days. It was an easy way to get cheap, uncomfortable laughs and be "edgy."

Much like Iraq, it's not the initial conquest that is necessarily the problem, it's the insurgency that comes after.

I mean, he’s a douche. I’m more concerned about him telling people they don’t need vaccines than anything. But it’s weird that people go to such lengths to defend him really.

Knives are out now

Someone is just going through his entire history to "gotcha" him at this point. Not a fan of this tbh. He's said some worse stuff than some of the shit that has come out. Wonder if they'll eventually get to his Stern appearances.

I'm torn.

On one hand, yeah I don't love the obvious effort going into a campaign against him. On the other, he knows that he spent most of his adult life trying to be a super edgy comedian. You can't be too mad when people start finding the super edgy shit you said/were involved in and if mainstream advertisers don't want to be involved with that. I mean, I know my ass can't run for public office. Too much dirt. I'm not being "cancelled" or any such dumb shit if someone who doesn't like me drags some of my old friends up on stage to tell unflattering stories the day after I announce my candidacy. If I did the dirt, that's on me, no? Sometimes you do and say shit at certain parts of your life that disqualifies you from doing other shit at a later part of your life.

the problem with this is it provides a convenient escape for Rogan in regard to the covid misinformation, which was supposed to be the point of this. Now, cancelling Rogan has become the point of this.

Yeah... I mean this stuff has been out on Rogan for a long time. He was never the cleanest or most polite comic out there and made a living on being "edgy" rather than funny (largely because he wasn't funny). He's not, nor was he ever, popular because he's a stand-up, polite gentleman and a scholar. But now that he's spewing antivax propaganda we suddenly care deeply about the past of an "edgy" comic who was trying to make a name for himself after hosting a reality tv/gameshow? This just gives the Rogan gang a fair excuse to whine about "cancel culture."
