I still am a little heartbroken at the people who've fallen victim to a lot of nonsense tbh. We reached a sort of uneasy peace in my family after Biden won because the MAGAs have gone semi-quiet but I'm still expecting all hell to break loose in 2024.
(One of them seems to have long-covid, has been in and out of the hospital with lung issues but they're also Freddie Andersen-level vague about what's going on)

Nah, DeSantis may be as bad as Trump (maybe worse, since he isn't a fucking imbecile like Trump) but his followers are just people who decided to vote for him. Trump's followers are cult members who do whatever Trump commands them to do. And the GOP apparatchiks who see this Svengali-like power and want to co-opt it for their own ends will support him. He's going to win the nomination in 2024 and if Republican efforts to suppress voters and gerrymander the outcome still doesn't get him over the finish line and he loses, he will claim that everything was rigged and they'll do a rinse and repeat of the coup in January of 2025.

My feeling is DeSantis is tempering that rhetoric until he needs it. He currently does not. This guy is very calculating, many things he's done here was with the oval office in mind down the road. He doesn't telegraph like Donald.

It's interesting to hear stuff about Pence for 2024 because my MAGA family would actually be ecstatic about that I think. They're probably more accurately described as hardcore religious than Trump fans but they were happy to play along that Trump was a Christian because they felt he was fighting for them (because they're so oppressed and now they can have christmas again!1!)
