There are smart people with money who are praying that this deal goes through. Elon is going to run Twitter into the ground and some Tech & VC douchenozzles are going to make a new version of twitter built off of the same backbone. 24-36 months from when the deal closes, Twitter is going to be worth a fraction of the value and at least one major competitor will have sprung up.

He seems smarter than the average muppet over there, but I'm not so sure that he hasn't slid closer and closer over into true believer territory over the last few years. There's enough regressive as fuck bread crumbs in his past to suggest that he's a full throated reich winger. He's the money behind the worst of the worst of the young Trumpists. Hawley, Vance, Masters.

I think you're giving him too much credit here man. Anyone who was just clinging to the movement as a matter of self interested opportunism would have pulled the pin and got the fuck out by now I think. He's doubling down behind the worst authoritarian pricks he can find.
