OT: American Politics

Trust me, I am not great defender of marriage - especially after getting swindled into a legally biding relationship that cost me thousands to get out of.

But I don't see the harm in having a distinction as long as both groups have the identical rights.

...what's the harm in no distinction? It means something to gay people get married, I really think having to distinguish between the two implies that their "gay marriage" is not actually equal to a "marriage". I don't understand why straight people would fight this so aggressively unless they want to be separate from gay people.

God - Jesus - Holy Spirit are all one... at least that is what I think I can decipher from the jumbled mess.

Catholic worship borders on polytheism in my opinion and as a Presbyterian that is not acceptable. Their God worship of Mary is even stranger.

There's only God. No spirit or Jesus hyphenated God crap.

It's funny because just yesterday cork said what was the need to designate gay areas of a city, even ethnic areas (like little italy etc) now he wants "gay marriage".

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Heaven forbid somebody go investigate the piece of land they are going to write about... what a terrible reporter.
I mean't the article you posted. Specifically this part...

Police say they have found “no evidence” that Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale — publicly denounced as a lurker, stalker, peeping Tom and potential “sicko” by the Ford brothers — went onto the mayor’s property or peered over his fence last week.
Their hate on for Ford and his brother is bordering on obsession.

heh. Fail.

I said IF we grant equal marriage rights then we can also do away with the segregation of designated gay districts.

My position is entirely consistent.

it is still a seperation because it's not the same name.

therefore your "same rights" should allow us to get rid of designated gay areas is inconsistent.

you enjoy having different names for what you believe are different, or unique things. so then it makes sense to keep the gay designated areas.

No it wouldn't. What's your point?

this is a ridiculous, ridiculous comment, and way, way over the line.

you're "tolerant" if you support gay marriage. you're "despicable and intolerant" if you support traditional marriage. but you're still "tolerant" if you call the mother of god what you called her as long as you still support gay marriage.

no, you're "tolerant" if you support any consenting adults having the same rights as all others.

you're "intolerant" if you support some having rights, but not others.

I hate most of these memes, but this one kills me. I love this guy.

Vic. You aren't paying attention.
I argued that if we were to give entirely equal rights and the use of the term "marriage" to gay marriage, then we should also do away with designated gay areas.

What are you missing here?

ok. I thought your view was this "gay marriage" idea.

But curious, what issues do you have with designated gay areas or designated ethnic areas?

I think this pretty much sums up the argument FOR gay marriage .....even if it is animated! please watch!!

no offense KB, I am just not a religious person (although I was years ago). I believe I *evolved* because I had a hard time wrapping my mind around thinking, because I was Christian, we were better then everyone else and the only people God approved of, which leads to a lot of hypocrisy. Today, I believe God is love, period. Very simple. All Jesus really wanted was for us to love God with all our hearts and do unto others as you would like them to do unto you. That message truly got lost along the way.

ST says this argument should not be about religion. I beg to differ. Religion is precisely why Amendment One passed in North Carolina.

Haha - good time to set up a u-haul franchise in the states.....Romney up over Obama in the polls.

not really, on average Obama is still up nationally (and the joke of a poll called Rasmussen is the only reason the numbers are all that close), and more importantly he has the lead in most of the important swing states.

if you want a more realistic assessment, check out what happens when people have to put their money where their mouth is: http://www.intrade.com/v4/markets/?eventId=84326

This board claims to be anti-religion, but I really only see their ire expressed towards Christianity.

Leafovic called Mary a "whore", but I have a hard time believing he'd call Mohammed a pedophile.

Mohammed was a pedophile.

I don't think it's right to encourage self-segregation.

It used to be necessary as people would immigrate to certain cities and would find support in their local community. While that is still the case, there are more than enough Federal and Provincial state support mechanisms in place that cultural groups don't need to huddle together like in the past.

People mixing up is the best way to make sure all the different cultures live cordially.

I'd totally think Christians were awesome if this is what the ones I knew stood for.

Lost in all this debate is how poorly Obama has handled this issue. He should have never backtracked on his claim to support gay-marriage in 2008.

Stick to your convictions.
