OT: American Politics

Very, very few are "pro abortion". Pretty close to no one really.

Many just believe that women should have the right to determine what happens with their body and that knowing about the pregnancy or what happens with the pregnancy is none of our business, entirely between her and her doctor. Ya know, that whole personal freedom bit you people claim to be the champions of.

That's not "pro abortion".
it's actually pro freedom

No idea. Don’t really know much about the man’s personal life or pre-Trump political views.

The most generous possible excuse I can come up with for him is that he may have a very myopic, singular view of who the best candidate is that’s based entirely on who is promising to give the most possible funding and importance to NASA and space exploration in general.

But it’s also entirely possible that he’s always been a hateful, racist fascist and broadly agrees with Trump. After all, his generation of astronauts were selected against the backdrop of anti-communist & anti-Soviet panic and most were military guys.

So I’m sure in general, the Apollo astronauts probably skew a ways over to the right in their political & social views.
This explains it.

Aldrin is a lifelong Republican who has been suffering from dementia since 2018.

From wiki:

"In 2018, Aldrin was involved in a legal dispute with his children Andrew and Janice and former business manager Christina Korp over their claims that he was mentally impaired through. His children alleged that he made new friends who were alienating him from the family and encouraging him to spend his savings at a high rate. They sought to be named legal guardians so they could control his finances. In June, Aldrin filed a lawsuit against Andrew, Janice, Korp, and businesses and foundations run by the family. Aldrin alleged that Janice was not acting in his financial interest and that Korp was exploiting the elderly. He sought to remove Andrew's control of Aldrin's social media accounts, finances, and businesses. The situation ended when his children withdrew their petition and he dropped the lawsuit in March 2019, several months before the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11.

On January 20, 2023, his 93rd birthday, Aldrin announced that he had married for the fourth time, to his 63-year-old companion, Anca Faur."

He was also a guest at Trump's SOTU address and has campaigned for various GOP shitbags through the years. Dude is 94 so if he's supporting Trump he should do it now because at his age he is "day to day".

Killing a baby is "getting to have a nice thing" jfc
No, ridding oneself of an unwanted pregnancy that could ruin one's life is a nice thing, but only if it's available to all, not just those rich enough to get away with it.

You can ban abortion but you can't uninvent it. So the only thing a ban does is penalize those people too poor to afford them. It doesn't stop one rich white woman from getting one.

I'm on the side of protecting and caring about Americans.

My grandma actually reminded me this last weekend that we're a SAR family and she's found a relative who fought in the revolutionary war for America. Also the only ancestors I know that fought in the civil war fought for the north. Learned of a new one this past weekend who was in Illinois cavalry, too, actually. None of my grandparents are from below the mason-dixon line lol.

So you're a carpet bagger?

don't forget the grift and entanglements with organized crime
Organized crime AND the KGB. They started using Trump to launder money as far back as 1980. He was the easiest asset they ever produced because he was so open to being corrupted. All it took was flattery, money, and a few hookers and he was all in. Once Trump Tower was built it was used as a KGB and Russian oligarch laundromat.

Literally the same early voter splits as every single recent election. If anything, in some states the woman share is lagging behind 2020 and 2016.

Not that it matters. We don't know what that means.

Polls showing this as a tight race are almost all showing 51-52% female electorates, which as you note, significantly lower than what we've seen in 2016 and 2020 (55% & 54% respectively). If only 51-52% of the electorate turns out to be female....this is a very, very close election and Trump probably squeeks in, the polls were right, I was wrong...well fuck. If it's 55%, Kamalalandslide bordering on a Kamalabouzylanche though. Trump scored an uptick among women in 2020, which wasn't expected. He's going to get mollywhopped by them in 2024 because Dobbs, and the only question was how many would show up to vote.

Early voting (currenty +15 million compared to 2016...behind the Covid election of 2020 though, which is an outlier for obvious reasons) suggests that women are showing up.
