OT: American Politics

I generally agree here, but this is an example of the systemic problems in our food systems.

governments can and should try to make healthier foods cheaper to produce and purchase. it's absurd that the McDouble may be the most affordable and nutritious meal in America...
Yeah I’d agree.

Trump and co ain’t doing any of that regardless though of course.

Fucking horse shit. Not only should the government not be subsidizing these treatments, they should be advertising how dangerous and harmful they are.

Obesity related illnesses are the most taxing costs to the health system. Sure ozempic is a quick fix, but it gets people out of the hospital a lot more than most other medication over the long haul. The subsidy is penny's in the bucket.

Make it prescribed is all. If stars want it to lose weight....pay for it. If you are morbidly obese then sure as hell it should be free

Former New York major, Bloomberg, tried to fight Big Junk Food. He started small, trying to ban the sale of any soda pop over 16ozs at stadiums, movie theatres, fast food joints, etc… but the courts squashed it.

It's kind of funny to see these right wingers drooling over RFK's message about health, whereas when Michelle Obama had the audacity to say "Hey, how about we feed kids some healthy foods once in a while" they lost their fucking minds.

Agree, lets spend government money on figuring out why Europe bans so many substances that go into food that we don't. Let's purify our food and water sources. Let's change lifestyle eating habits. Let's incentive cooking and eating at home and find ways to make groceries less expensive.
You dont need to spend money, I'll tell you for free: unchecked capitalism and its aversion to anything resembling public oversight.

European governments ban so many substances because their regulatory agencies haven't been corrupted by corporations who stand to profit from a lack of regulation. In the US, literally everything is for sale, including government regulators. In Europe, regulators actually regulate stuff.

Oh, and you want groceries to be less expensive? I'll give you this for free too: put a stop to corporate greed and price gouging. Also, rethink your stance on immigration because pasty white Americans won't pick fruits and vegetables for the slave wages being offered. Your cheaper food is dependent on a permanent underclass of low paid, mostly illegal immigrants. The only alternative is to switch to well-paid American pickers. But that won't keep costs down.
