OT: American Politics

I think we all know what the long game is here.

1. Threaten tariffs to manipulate the stock market and make money from the dips.
2. Threaten tariffs in order to get corporate CEO's to come begging for carve-out's.
3. Extort those corporate CEO's for financial and political gain, ergo, more power.

Trump correctly guessed that corporate CEO's are, deep down, neo-fascist cowards who don't give a damn about standing up for democracy so long as they get to keep getting richer. And China proved a long time ago that democracy is not a prerequisite for capitalism to exist. It works just as well in authoritarian countries. Maybe even better.

Yeah, I'm mostly good with this as an opening salvo. The goal here is to get a deal, or get Trump to honor USMCA. I'm okay with opening up with pleasantries (that can be interpreted a few different ways tbh...) and letting his reaction dictate where we go. He's going to keep shitting himself with this 51st state nonsense, but we're in a better position to make our diversification moves away from the US if we're not bleeding jobs and in a deep recession.
All I can say is "Thank God Carney decided to wear a suit."

Federal judge says results of North Carolina court race with Democrat ahead must be certified

Judge: You can't change rules for a game that's over
