OT: American Politics

Depends on the states.
More of a joke that the current party in power / Supreme Court won’t allow it in blue states specifically. But I admittedly know almost nothing about U.S. districting and it wasn’t a very funny joke anyway so I’ll stop typing now.

That's fucking beautiful

There's an excellent point in there though as well. There are a lot of democrats who have dined off of Barack Obama's success like they had fuck all to do with it and without Obama would be epic career losers.

Yeah, give that man a podcast, let's go.

watching it again....he's basically this

By destroying the “Administrative State”, what they are talking about is destruction depersonalized, secular institution that underpins the rule of law and scientific/evidence based policy making.

It results in arbitrary and incompetent governance by oligarchs. So, Russia and The Age Imbeciles.

That said, as we’ve seen with Trump/Musk the emotive propagandists and the tech bros is not a stable equilibrium. Bannon hates Musk.

But the damage they will wreak will be severe because, I agree, their interests are aligned for now.

Too bad Hunter isn’t secretary of health in the second Biden administration.

Joe should have just owned the nepotism, pardoned and appointed Hunter. And put out a mean tweet about Clooney.

Joe was in tough shape at the end though.

Too bad, he was really effective in the first half of the Administration, really important and consequential stuff.

The fatal flaw was Garland not moving quickly enough on Dotard. May have cost them the republic…

Yeah, I don't know if there was a good answer for them at the time when we use the benefit of hindsight.

Joe was old and cooked and probably loses to Trump despite Trump also being old and cooked. The media seems entirely good with carrying Trump's dementia water as often as they have to regardless of how heavy it gets. Easy enough to theory craft on that as to why. Was anyone else from the dems capable of pulling away from the centrist/corporatist wing of the party and it's consultants? If the VP got sucked in by them, who would have had the juice to avoid that? (they appear to have had nothing to do with her early burst out of the gates but a lot to do with her message get muddled and the energy tailing off mid campaign). Newsom? I think we've seen the calibre of his decision making process on display since and it's not good. Pete? Nah, he definitely gets pulled into the dem consultant vortex as the power brokers in the party would have been convinced that he needs to be managed because gay is risky, etc.

Joe was the only one with the gravity of his own to avoid that, but he was a million years old.

Years of MSM sanewashing of Dotard is enraging. Feckless twerps. And it was never gonna save them. Dotard is taking them out anyway. All to chase clicks and eyeballs, which is also eroding…

gerrrymander!

Only works if the voters are staying in state.

Overall, I think "blue" places have just flopped at managing housing and transit. SoCal not having real regional rail in 2025, fuck high speed, just good, high frequency, efficient regional rail is mind boggling. If you do regional transit well, you can densify your suburbs and even your exurbs because getting in and out of the city is still easy and fast. It was obvious 20+ years ago where this was all going and nothing was done. Too little was attempted, and what was attempted mostly ended up in varying levels of failure. The US had to stick the landing in 3 regions and the closest they got was Acela. We had to not fuck up one and we're doing our best to bottle our first attempt of doing something at all after 30 years of doing nothing at all. The housing crisis is a transportation crisis as much as it is a housing crisis. A lot of young people would happily buy a home or rent in Orangeville, Peterborough, Keswick, Brantford, Coburg, etc, etc if they could get on a bog standard electrified train that does modern bog ass standard 200kmh with reasonable frequency and get from their front door to a handful of areas in the GTA within ~45 minutes. Those smaller places would necessarily densify around that transit access to the city.
