OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Can't we just hold out another... Let's say 6 months to a year or so? I feel like we're really close to groundbreaking advancements that would quite literally end the pandemic. Bring operation warp speed back and let's get fucking going. We don't have the tools to beat this thing yet but I truly believe we're close between intranasal vaccines and variant-proof vaccines; both of which look extremely promising in early trials. But it's all moving too slowly. Operation warp speed. Now.

It's about finding a livable mix of measures that protect our public systems while not shutting down the world... im not going to say the economy because the economy is fuck, record profits for many businesses.

Keep masks in place, continue to allow restaurants/gyms to expand outdoor areas during months where it is warm enough, provide tax credits to individuals and business for PPE etc.

When a new variant comes out be proactive with small measures so we don't need to shut down

Is it strange that the UK, which is also 'wide open' isn't seeing the same growth trends? Is it that they have higher pop level immunity from delta?
Yeah I have no idea what's going on there. Could be behavioral-based too. Not sure. There was a decent study showing a large reduction in mobility in the UK in the balls of the Omicron wave, despite the lack of governmental restrictions. So it could be that Danes are more care-free at this stage. Could also be the extra transmissibility of BA.2 in Denmark which isn't as present in the UK right now. But who knows really.

oh man. you have good (/terrible?) timing.

she's been back in office for I want to say about a week now? not at 100% but able to work. until today, when her fever shot back up to 102 and she began sweating like crazy. getting a rush on her bloodwork...the saga continues.

and another colleague left today as they found out they are a close contact.
further update - fever has broken and she is back at work. hopefully no further scares...

It's sad hearing all the bad experiences people are having here. After school started again lots of families in our friend group got it and no one had anything more than "mild" symptoms and they've all been asymptomatic within 5 days or so. Just lucky I guess.

I know one person in particular that caught Omicron in early January, was nearly asymptomatic and now she says that she feels worse now than she did while she was infected. Persistent brain fog and severe fatigue has plagued her since.

With that said, I think Omicron is giving people less issues than Delta and variants in the past. I'm not sure if that extends to long covid but it seems feasible enough to me.

FUCKING PREACH!!! INNOVATE!!! OPERATION WARP SPEED!!! LETS FUCKING GO YOU MORONS!! WE'RE SO CLOSE TO FIGURING OUT GAMEBREAKING, PANDEMIC-ENDING TOOLS!!!! ACCELERATE IT!!!

Ms. Wayward by all accounts had a 'mild' case and is still feeling physically 'off' :(

Hopefully things get back to baseline soon.
Interesting study about that recently.

(1) there is female predominance in the patients seeking care for LC (n=81 [75%]);
(2) women are more likely than men to have an elevated IL-6 (69% vs 28%);
(3) ongoing fatigue is the most common phenotype in women (n=58 [72%])

Of course, it's still far too early to call Ms. Wayward or babe's cases "long covid" (it's typically defined as having symptoms 3+ months post infection) but there does appear to be a gender bias for the lingering symptoms.

Some good news on that intranasal potentially gamechanging genius method from this genius immunologist who is doing all of the important work right now from long covid research, to developing near-sterilizing vaccines:

Funding appears to be on the horizon to get going on human trials. Keep innovating, nerds. The crisis is not over.
