OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Pretty happy to keep wearing masks going forward. Will definitely wear them whenever I feel a bit under the weather, it's just the right thing to do. I used to have some internalized racism towards those (usually Asians) I used to see wearing them all the time. Covid really did sort that out though. Definitely reset my thinking about why wearing a mask is about everyone else, not yourself.
very much this. I am also now old enough to appreciate the impact that my father's casual dinnertime racism had on my viewpoints growing up. takes a while to unpack.

Yeah, I used to see people wearing them in the past and think they were fucking morons. Even with covid when they initially said they were ineffective, I said "thank fucking God!"

But now? It's like nothing. I will never understand the whining, it's such a teeny, tiny little sacrifice to make for the health of others and myself.

I get that there are some cases (like Stinky above) where there's a legit medical reason or they can induce a panic attack, but this is a very small percentage of people. The rest are just whiny fucking bitches.

Ok. Maybe the omicron residual brain fog, but can you laymen terms this for me?
So your infection should result in high level immunity vs omicron, delta and all other variants since you're also vaccinated. There were some concerns (mostly from animal studies) that Omicron infections did not protect vs reinfections very well. This should afford you decent immunity for at least the next little bit. The protection wanes but likely at a slower pace than with vax immunity largely because it gives you proper mucosal immunity as well (vaccines don't give much of that since they're intramuscular shots).

We still don't know how long immunity from omicron will last tho. Some people (especially those with mild or asymptomatic infections) may not produce many antibodies so it's a guessing game. With vaccines you get a more stable, predictable dose.

Tldr: it's nothing earth shattering but largely good news. And I hope you feel better soon.

Yeah part of personal growth is weeding that shit out as you grow up. I was pretty lucky to grow up in a household that had friends of all different races visiting constantly (maybe the only benefit of growing up a JW in the area I grew up in), so there wasn't much to do, but you can still form opinions that you need to examine at some point.

Magnificent post. 10/10.

Also, can relate.

Thank you! I’m getting boosted in two weeks. The pharmacy suggested minimum 30 days from onset and I have a course and exam this weekend or I’d be doing it Saturday after class.

An immunologist that I follow agrees with around 30 days based on what we know and how vaccines can sometimes reduce some of the symptoms of long covid. And the earlier the better with that. So fingers crossed it helps!

Never forget a joke book a classmate had purchased at Cole's bookstore and how it was full of black jokes that would likely get you murdered today. This was 35 years ago. My best friend was an adopted kid who happened to be black and the shame that that book caused me was terrible. Still boggles my mind that kids in Grade 8 at the time thought they were hilarious jokes.

Some signs that BA.2 is prolly more severe than OG Omicron. This will happen throughout the rest of times of course. Some variants will suck ass, others will give us a break. Not unlike the flu really.

She was in the hospital for 139 days, she and her baby almost died and her uncle heard that and STILL didn’t get vaccinated and then died? Holy fuck.
