OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Until they discovered the Her2+ marker, people were not super optimistic about young women with aggressive breast cancer too.

and how many decades did that take? How many other conditions are currently untreatable that we're waiting for better life saving treatments to manage?

If there was an easy preventative measure that young women could have done to avoid most instances of aggressive breast cancers, we shouldn't have been doing that in the interim because we were hoping for a better treatment?

I don't think you've thought this through

There is.

don't binge drink.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that aggressive breast cancer has slightly more complicated causality than simply "don't binge drink".

Japanese studies show that wearing an N95 reduces your chances of infection when in contact with an infected person by ~99%. We're comparing apples to orbital space stations here bud.

Also 1 is a contagious disease spread via close contact and the other is not.

Not to be crude but if a tiddy mask significantly reduced the risk of breast cancer everyone would be wearing them.

Yes. I was being glib. Either way it looks like mask mandates are going to come down sooner than later. And likely a lot sooner than many of you guys would like. I for one welcome this.

Then you're welcoming the loving embrace of widespread long covid.

This is a terrible, terrible idea. Future generations are going to look at this as a massive wtf moment. But we're piling those up, so maybe they won't notice this one with the rest of the pile.

Speaking of LC treatments, new results from a trial released:

No data, not randomized, not sure what the primary outcomes were(?), high risk of bias overall. So this is sorta where we're at with Long covid. You have a bunch of things that maybe kinda sorta work for some people. But you're just relieving some symptoms (often temporarily). We'll get there, but long way to go.

This drug in particular is an anticlotting drug; basically busts microclots, which are common in nearly all long covid patients. So you bust them, some symptoms are relieved, but then they return. Need to get to the root of the issue.
I’m hoping the next plot twist from the writers is the LC can be treated with ivermectin.

That would be a great season finale.

These people are so fucking desperate that this is VERY common for people to attempt. But everything is really. It's sort of heartbreaking. Anyway ivermectin was not so successful in this case:

The entire community is just people rotating 5000 medications and hoping something works. It's brutal.

Maybe.

Thank you for this.

I'm going to try to be delicate here. Let me know if I'm rude.

There is something about how you write where I (stress on my experience) do not see any room for engagement.

I think what I pick up on is an arrogant dismissal in your disagreements - as though you know better and we should awaken to the truth as you see it.

Perhaps I'm being sensitive. And, your posts didn't seem like an invitation. More of an admonishment. "How could any believe" has a tone that's purdy durn dismissive.
not rude at all. I am not going to debate your interpretation of my writing, but will note it. honestly I think part of it is just my writing style, and I think it makes sense on one level given what I do professionally. there's always room for disagreement though.

but I think it is important to have your viewpoints challenged, even if I can't promise to initially reacting brilliantly. so know that opposing views that are backed up with logic, evidence, fact, etc. will be considered.

and for context, I have people tell me in writing that my opinions are bullshit daily

So hard to say anything definitively since the experts are forced to say "we don't know yet" so often with this virus. Especially with tons of new data coming in every day from all around the world.

For example, I can definitely see both sides of the kids in school and vaccine mandate arguments. Even when it comes to lockdowns, they are obviously better for reducing viral spread, but there are so many strong counter-arguments that I think it's fair to consider the other side.

But it seems to me that when it comes to vaccine vs. unvaxxed, and masking in public, there is no "both sides". These debates have long been settled and the data is crystal clear.

Vaccines reduce your chance at hospitalization or death, by a lot. And masks in public places reduce viral spread, by a lot.

Pretty happy to keep wearing masks going forward. Will definitely wear them whenever I feel a bit under the weather, it's just the right thing to do. I used to have some internalized racism towards those (usually Asians) I used to see wearing them all the time. Covid really did sort that out though. Definitely reset my thinking about why wearing a mask is about everyone else, not yourself.
