OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Just want to say this...

All of this is going to make the truckers look like heroes to the COVID-deniers, and that's all we are going to hear about for the next few months.

I just want to say to the people that have spent the last two years avoiding any responsibility to their neighbors/families/communities, and instead spending their spare time railing against the provincial health care system, complaining about their freedoms and fear-mongering about eternally losing their rights/freedoms, and shaming those that chose to get "gene therapy", "micro-chipped" and killing themselves by wearing a mask.. and finally channeling all of their stupidity (and grifted/crowd-funded money) into a convoy of flag-waving, diesel-burning tailgaters that decided to speak to Canada's manager about how mean he is.

A hearty and sincere "Get Fucked."

If you chose to not get vaccinated, and have still been lucky enough to not get COVID - thank the HIGH-PERCENTAGE of your neighbours/friends/family that got the shot, x2, x3. It's not your own dumbass that prevented the masses from getting put down by COVID due to hospital overload, it's the strong and brave part of the population that stepped-up and looked after you - and don't worry, I'll never let you forget that.

Cheers.
This is my feeling and why I'm unsure if I'll continue going out after the mandate lifts... im not super worried about covid (3 shots) but I'm worried I'll run into an unvaccinated freedom fuck and end up in an argument or worse.

Ford Gov't folding like a cheap tent. He suddenly sounds like the truckers?!?

"We all want to go back to normal"
"I'd bet that everyone wants to stop wearing masks"
"We have to move on from this, and learn to live with it"

Fuck off, and take all your "listening to science" bullshit with you.

If you transparent "cancelling plate stickers" wasn't enough to see that you're worried about your job, then prematurely cancelling COVID health measures certainly is.

At least tell the COVID-deniers the truth about their risks, and start pumping money into the fucking hospitals to start restaffing and getting ready for the next wave.
What is this in reference to?

From what I have seen or heard today nothing about the covid the restrictions and relaxations phases has changed from what was announced a weeks or two ago. Today was the start of another step in the occupancy allowances for different venues.

His presser two days ago where he said we’re all done with covid and masks, like it says in the post.

"It doesn't matter if you've got 1 shot or 10 shots, you can still catch COVID" - no mention of outcomes
"We just have to stay safe and wash our hands" - no mention of the effectiveness of masks
"We have to learn to live with this and get on with our lives" - no reference to any current science/health data
"Do people want masks on or off, they want them off" - again minimizing the effectiveness of masks
"People want to get back to normal, go out and have dinner with their families" - no mention of the continued risks
"There are the rabble-rousers, and then there are hard-working people that just don't believe in it" - I got you, covid-deniers
"We just have to get out of this, and protect the jobs" - again, denying any current data

It was really disappointing to hear him regurgitating anti vax talking points but not at all surprising. If he wasn’t premier, I’d imagine he might even be out there. These are his instincts. That’s why every step came too late.

Fox News tweeted this clip with the headline “Doug Ford supports convoy” or something to that effect

Covid is over everywhere at this point because with this particular variant, hospitals aren't being over-run. So while we're scrapping all precautions and promising a "return to normal" all it really takes is a single variant to come along that is more severe and we're back to locking down again. That's when people will really be pissed.

And yes, there will be more severe variants. It's a coronavirus. That's what they do.

And as for long covid, we're on our own. The acute infections aren't putting us in hospitals at the same rate and that's all they care about. Just kicking the can down the road for the inevitable long covid crisis that is and will deplete the workforce dramatically after mass infection/reinfection over the next year or two.

TLDR: be careful out there, folks. Live your life, your odds are good on any single infection. But it would be prudent to wait for more data on people who have been infected 3, 4, 5x and whether the risks of long covid are a fixed rate for each infection or if it's degenerative over each passing infection. Help is on the way. Nerds will innovate their way out of this so try your best to hold out as much as you can.

Meh, just move on. If you are triple-vaxxed you've done your part IMO.

If you are ready to start going out again, and someone gives you trouble - you can either engage them, tell them that we all made our own choices, or my favourite, just tell them "You're welcome" and leave it at that.

Yep, things are looking up.

COVID therapies/drugs for those that are hospitalized will further reduce hospital reinfection, protect staff and speed up recoveries.

But yep, understand your own risks and do what you feel is best for you.

Going out and spending 2+hours in large groups in bars/restaurants/theatres will still be as risky as it is today, mask or no mask.

I have zero interest in "normal" until it's actually normal again. Not this stupid bullshit normal that some people insist upon forcing on the rest of us.

Restrictions aren't what is abnormal, covid is what is abnormal. I used to be able to go out without concern of getting a dangerous virus that could leave me with permanent damage. Now, I can't. That's abnormal.

ms. wayward and I have dinner reservations for the first time in a very long time tomorrow. I am very much looking forward to it.

we both agreed that since we are now fully vaxxed + boosted + likely infection we may as well live our lives a bit more as I do not know when we will have better immunity...

Worth taking advantage of the pockets of time when you have your best immunity, for sure.

As I've had alpha and likely recently omicron and I'm boosted, I'll probably go to restaurants.

Crowded bars, sporting events etc. I'm not really there yet.

Nerds performed miracles in just two years. But at the end of the day it has only been 2 years. More is coming and soon we'll be in a place that we can call "normal" even if it requires inhaling a vaccine that gives you near-sterilizing immunity once or twice a year or some shit.

For now, there are still a lot of unknowns and it's sad seeing stories of people completely shocked at the severity of covid even when vaxxed. There's a lot of "no one told me I'd still have symptoms after a month or two" which is a giant failure of communication. At this point it's about personal risk tolerance but how can that be if most don't even understand the risks? Sickening to see the politicians around the world downplay it.

No point to me in shutting myself down if we’re letting it rip. My roommates need to be out and about as it is, so there’s inherent risk to me even if I stay home. And I know enough people who take prestoprecaution x 69 and still caught it, so why be a hermit?

leafs vs wild Feb 24 let’s goooooooo
