OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Dr. Presto

I think somebody posted (probably you) about not needing the full 2 weeks after dose 2.

My parents getting dose 1 today, in 10 days we go camping with them. I am going on the assumption that they will be pretty much super protected by that point.

I've been told 21 days for Pfizer. Don't know about the rest.

I’ve had a slew of dental work done since the start of the pandemic. I feel very comfortable there.

Strict screening, arrive only 5min. before appt., coded entry to building and there is no waiting room open, just three chairs well spaced in the hallway. Each examining and treatment room has a floor size hepa filter and doorways are covered with heavy plastic. The dentists and all assistance appear to be well masked an gowned. Of course I have no idea what goes on when no patients are around but
oh sorry - this was pre covid - about cleaning the instruments properly between patients and what not
protocols were not being followed

That is between doses...no?

I thought somebody said 1 week - the pharma told me 2 weeks after until your body builds the antibodies or whatever - but that was for first dose

Oh oh - found this.....
fuck presto

While the manufacturer has the second dose listed to be taken 21 days later, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) has recommended the second dose for all vaccines to be administered up to four months after the first dose to allow more Canadians to receive the vaccine. The NACI said that by having more individuals vaccinated with their first dose, this will decrease the chances of community transmission.

One week after the second dose is administered, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be 95 per cent effective in preventing symptomatic COVID-19 and severe outcomes related to it.

Nice I have an excuse to post one of my favorite studies! Upper right chart is the one you want.

2 weeks is for the first dose. 1 week isn't perfect for dose #2 but it's pretty effin good, especially for younger people.

It says one week but they're telling us 3 to be sure after second dose along with the same length interval between the two shots.

I worry we may need at least 70% of the entire population vaccinated to keep it fully under control (pure guess. could be more I guess but also could be less). Would prefer a bit of a buffer because the concern of waning antibodies heading into the winter (especially for the edlerly) could cause a shitstorm. Our mRNA vaccines could go from 85-88% effective to.. Who knows? 75, 70%. 65% effective in 6 months? In that case we'd need more folks vaxxed to keep shit under control! Or a precautionary booster. I prefer that.

For Ontario to accomplish 70% we need ~80% uptake for 12+ers; around 10.3m people fully vaxxed. So far we've got:
1. 63% of the entire province on a dose which is 9.3m folks so we need 1m more (been doing about 50, 60,000 1st dosers per day lately and it seems to be decreasing)
2. 72% uptake for 12+ers on 1 dose

Berta:
1. 58% of entire population on 1 dose
2. 68% uptake for 12+

Both provinces are slowing down on 1st dosers but surely they'll continue to trickle in!

Oh let's do Nova Scotia:
1. 63% of entire province on 1 dose
2. 71% uptake for 12+ers

Of course good news is everyone over 2 should be eligible to get vaccinated by the end of the year. So that'll help with the percentages heading into the winter. We may need it. Would be awesome if we could get over 80% coverage for every single human being in the country.
thanks for including us! I believe we are still doing primarily first doses right now and just getting into the 15+ group perhaps?

my understanding is that after one dose it takes two full weeks to reach 'full one dose immunity'. but obviously at day 10 they're closer to full immunity than none.

In the time that I posted new data came in.

72.4% uptake for first dosers now! 64.4% of the entire province.

And yes, you guys are still plowing through 1st doses. Only 4.9% fully vaccinated. Ontario is just over 10% now. Good sign but it means you won't get your shot for awhile yet.

But great fucking sign and it makes me want to visit even more.

I think/hope that part of our lag in 2nd doses is just due to our stupid high uptake in first doses.

But yeah, they made an announcement that like March first dosers could book their second, and nothing further. I'm a late May so may not be until end of July or August until I get called.

having said that, I checked our portal today and there are a whole bunch of new appointments available as of about June 30, so I'm assuming they will fill all those with second dosers.

but I'm also not confident we can make it to end of July without another spike/lockdown. we still have community spread here despite like six weeks of lockdown?

Which one did you get? AZ?

Based on Canada's supply and assuming you guys use Moderna and Pfizer interchangeably I think it should open up to everyone by mid-July. Of course a lot of that depends on how many people get vaccinated there. Based on 1st dosers not really drying up like we're seeing in Berta and to a lesser extent, Ontario, I'm guessing you guys will be near the top of the uptake chain in Canada. But still. We're going to have a lot of fucking doses. More than enough for everyone by mid July especially assuming Moderna continues to deliver in the first half of July.

Pfizer. we're basically all mrna here now. and much more Pfizer than derna. wouldn't be surprised if my second dose was derna though.

Can someone @Preston give the 2 dose AZ protection on the delta variant vs 1st dose AZ and 2nd mRNA?
