OT: Food & Drink Thread - Where to Go, What to Eat, etc.

Thanks for the inputs. The crowd I'll be going with does enjoy a good meal. Sal, if I remember well, you are a New Englander, right? Ever been to a place in Boston called Mistral? A place like that in Montreal would be a great idea for one night.
 
Been a couple of times, liked their foie gras appetizer, the other time I had their Sirloin carpaccio, pretty ok, main course I thought was overpriced, but good overall - reminds me a lot of Gotham Bar & Grill in NYC, high ceilings, atmosphere etc..

BTW - re: Mtl restos always recommend La Prunelle on Duluth, block west of St.Denis. Vary a lot of menu content based on catch of the day, bison, venison, fish etc.. and it's BYOW. Excellent, imaginative chefs. It's an old garage that's been remodeled, my wife & I have always loved the place, been going for close to 15-yrs - great atmosphere, even though smallish.

Yeah, he's from the New England part of CSL/NDG/Montreal West.

There's also Gibby's, Tuck Shop has a really good steak but I felt like a dummy for taking it because the rest of their menu is amazing. Same for Joe Beef, although I shared a huge-ass steak for two with my younger brother. I've never actually been, but there's La Queue de Cheval as well but it's a little more expensive than Moishes. Rolex goes out more than me, so maybe he has some other suggestions of places with top notch steaks.

(If you want to go to Joe Beef, reserve waaaaaay in advance, because it's booked 2-3 months ahead of time. Tuck Shop you're usually okay if you reserve a week ahead of time.)

Unfortunately it's pretty second-rate by North American standards. As many here have said, as good as the food is in Mtl., steaks are not.

It sounds like the prune. I just looked at the menu and I don't eat that stuff. I suggest you look at the menu first. If you are going with some guys i don't know about that. There is a new place that opened up called Soubois that is pretty happening if you are into that euro cuisine.

La Prunelle loosely translated means "Apple of my eye". Looking at their menu doesn't serve the place justice, though the menu is very good - their specials of the day based on catch of the day is their specialty.

I agree, however, it's not exactly a prototypical "boys night out before a hockey game type place", but they do have excellent steaks & sides - but I'm pretty much a filet mignon person anyway.
 
Joe Beef is still the shit. The best.

I can't remember eating a better plate of chicken. My buddy took deer and ohhhhhhh man.
 
Varies. To reserve a table for four on a Friday at 6PM, I had to reserve three months ahead of time. For two, it might take less time and if you go later at night, it's easier to find tables. I reserved through their online reservation site, Bookenda. Looking real quick for a table for two, the next opening they have is on January 6th at 9:45PM.
 
FYI....Joe Beef, Park and a few other high end Mtl restos have an app for last minute day of resos.

It's called DINR and it's worth it for a Hail Mary pass.
 
Just 24 hours in Montreal.

O.K. So I will be coming through Montreal in July with a lady friend of mine who has never been. However, we will be only be able to stay from about noon until noon the next day. :facepalm

If you had 3 places to check out that are going to leave an impression, what would they be? I don't just mean bars because shes not much of a drinker. I just mean must see Montreal. I'm already thinking lunch in Old Montreal.

Note that this is someone who has a skewed view of Montreal and doesn't even necessarily want to go. How do I make her a believer?
 
I have a bit of high cholesterol and pretty high Triglyceride, have to go easy on food with high level of carbohydrates like Rice and bread and red meat which is really hard, i am big red meat and rice and bread fan :(.
 
A few yrs back my Doc wanted me to take cholesterol meds because my levels were slightly high. I cut the eggs and butter and it went down. My prob is burgers and pizza, don't need anything else.

I've all but stopped eating pizza. I'll have some maybe once or twice a year, but every time I do, I always have to drink a gallon of water (almost literally) otherwise I'll have be thirsty as hell all day and I almost always get stomach cramps.
