OT: MLB Thread

Giants last year were better tha Toronto's team this year. We had also shown an ability to win when it counted, something your team has not shown in 22 years.

Kudos to the Giants for winning 3 WS in 6 years. The fact is, in those 3 wins they never had the best talent. They're are a well run organization.

I'd argue now the Jays have more overall talent than the Giants of last year.

The only player that may have been a major risk is Price IMO. Donaldson locked up Tulo locked up. There are a number of free agent starting pitchers this off season. Many of them will look hard at Toronto as a destination. The run support is unmatched.

If price doesn't re sign they still should be able to get two strong FA's for less. Also Stroman will be back and I expect Sanchez and Osuna to continue their progress.

Offensively they are set. 1 job this offseason. 1.

Not sure how many pitchers will want to come to toronto
1) they have to pitch in the dome
2) the team doesnt give out deals longer than 5 years
3) they have 3 veteran pitchers as free agents (MB, dickey, price)

but a decent post season run should help

Toronto has not shown it is a major destination for FAs for quite some time. Granted, the US money the players are paid will go farther here given our low dollar, but of course, they also pay more in tax in Toronto and according to some here, that is a major factor in determining if someone signs.

I guess come playoff time, if Toronto's team gets in, for me it will be anybody but the Blue Jays

They have an option on dickey.

As for the dome.... Clemens x2, Halladay and hentgen won a cy young there.

At the end of the day, winning is what will change everything

the good players will go to who pays them the most

Fat Panda left the Giants after three WS in five seasons because the Red Sox offered him more $$

I think it is true for most. But there will be players looking to prove themselves and boost their win totals to get the next contract.

Also, if the money is equal, winning plays a part.

If Price, Dickey and Buhrle don't re-sign the Jays are in trouble. They traded about a dozen pitchers at the deadline.

They still have Stroman, Hutch, Sanchez, Estrada who all look like starting pitching options. They definitely need to add another 2 guys to that group to get back to being at least respectable. But without those 3, the Jays still have about 40M to spend on their rotation, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a couple capable starters.
