OT: MLB Thread

Wouldn't the fans have to look out toward the river as if the stadium faced toward the mountain, the sunsets would be nice but the sun would also be right in the batters eyes?

Both Jarry Park and the Big O had the diamond configured so that dead centre field was toward the northeast (northeast in terms of what one would consider street direction in Montreal, not northeast on the compass)

If you are building a billion dollar park surely you can control the sun as well. pfft

Hall of Famer Yogi Berra passes away at 90

A loss that unquestionably transcends the game has sent all of baseball into deep mourning. Yogi Berra -- Hall of Famer, all-time Yankees legend, World War II veteran, master of misstatement and beloved international icon, is gone. Berra died Tuesday night at age 90.

The announcement came early Wednesday morning and was announced via the Yogi Berra Museum's Twitter account.

His passing has created a void that cannot be filled, even by the myriad anecdotes -- some accurate, others exaggerated -- about him and the dozens of records he established. No American sports figure other than Babe Ruth, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali and perhaps Arnold Palmer and Joe DiMaggio was more recognized by the general public in the 20th century. And though his profile had become significantly lower in the last decade, Berra had retained a conspicuous place in the American consciousness. He was extraordinarily popular.

Detroit downed Minnesota 6-4, thanks to a home run by former Jay Rajai Davis. The Angels, however, defeated the Mariners 8-4 to delay Toronto's celebration.

The Jays are guaranteed to play beyond 162 games as they have clinched no worse than a tie for a wild card spot.

I thought they hadn't because LA Angels won?

This explains it:

The Blue Jays entered play with a magic number of two to clinch at least a wild card berth and narrowed that down to one with their win. They then needed both the Twins, who fell 6-4, and Los Angeles Angels, who beat the Seattle Mariners 8-4, to lose.

While that didn’t happen, it turns out only two of the Rangers, Astros and Angels can finish at 88-74 – the record the Blue Jays would end up with if they lost all nine of their remaining games – because of the trio’s head-to-head games with one another.

The Rangers and Astros play twice more, while the Rangers and Angels have four games left. That means one of the AL West teams must lose 75 games or more.

If two of those teams tied at 88-74, one would win the AL West after a tiebreaker, while the other would claim a wild card along with the Blue Jays or Yankees.

I guess the Giants won't be in the playoffs either.
