OT: MLB Thread

Cubs for sure, they will only get better as their younger guys live up to their potential. But the Mets also are a sleeper just because their 1-4 pitchers are all legitimate aces. Thor will only be better this year.

Degrom/Thor/Harvey/Wheeler/Matz

But Cubs have better hitting and Giants are very well rounded. Most likely one of those teams wins it, I don't think there are any strong enough AL teams to beat them in a 7 game series.

Update on @Montreal_Expos Tim Raines HOF voting, per @NotMrTibbs, Raines named on 80.6% of 98 ballots made public.

Former Mariner, Red Sox, Giants, A's and Royals outfielder (and later Mariners' TV and radio analyst) Dave "Hendu" Henderson has died at only 57 years of age. He will best be remembered for his clutch hitting in the 1986 ALCS when the Red Sox came back to beat the Angels. He also hit .400 in the World Series that year in a losing cause. He played in 4 World Series and managed to win one, when the A's beat the Giants in 89.

If Raines' eligibility runs out before he's elected into the Hall they may as well just close the thing down because it's officially a joke.

If MLB didn't care, why should you? You didn't care when "your" Seahawks cheated by holding illegal contact PI every play on their way to a SB.

Your confusing gamesmanship in a sport that preaches "if you aren't cheating, you're not trying" to using illicit drugs in order to cheat. You can't equate the two. Subtle pass interference in football would be on a par with throwing a spit ball or doctoring a bat in baseball (and even that's a bit of a stretch) Using roids and HGH to hit more home runs is a world away from that.

Its not like Raines never used drugs.

He didn't use performance-enhancing drugs he used cocaine as a recreational drug (as many did during those years) He stopped using coke in 1982 and was able to play into his 40's, something he could never do if he had stayed high. What Raines did not do is inject himself with HGH or anabolic steroids in order to pad his stats.

If you had an illegal pill that you could give the Canadiens to guarantee a championship you would it to them in a second.

Sure but I would do it knowing that I was making a Faustian bargain. I could win the championship but if I got caught my dream of going into the HOF would be over. There has to be consequences for breaking the rules. Fining and suspending players doesn't have any real effect. When a player like Bonds plays fast and loose with the record books unfairly it's his legacy that should suffer. Perhaps the knowledge that some things can not be glossed over with the passage of time; that some things can not and will not be excused will give the next potential cheat some pause. If you let Bonds into the HOF knowing what he did then you aren't discouraging anyone from doing the same thing. It's the same reason why Pete Rose still isn't in the Hall. Players and managers who are tempted to gamble have received the message that no amount of contrition or rehabilitation of one's image is going to be enough to get you into the HOF. Forgiving is one thing but to allow Rose or Bonds into the Hall would be tantamount to forgetting, which MLB should not do. They can reach some accommodation with these players so that they can have some limited involvement with the game but the Hall of Fame should be permanently off-limits to those who cheat.
